I would say the sororities that receive respect are kappa, pi phi, aphi, dg, and chi o. adpi is sort of up there, but they have a reputation for rafting on other sororities to get them on social probation so they are definitely not as well liked among the other houses, but still sort of respected/recognized. As for the remaining houses, it's not that they aren't respected, but they certainly have less recognition and a worse social life

Honestly most of the non-Greek population doesn't care or know enough to care. It depends on your definition of "respected".

For example, GPhi is ranked the "bottom" amongst sororities but I have so much respect for them. I witnessed a PNM openly bash on them during FFR in front of them at their house. This PNM later broke a strap on her shoe and I saw two GPhis rush over to help her.

AXO had extended a bid to a girl a few years ago who ended up not being able to pay for dues-- they still invited her to some of their social events and didn't let that get in the way of still becoming friends with her. I had friends in "top" houses who admitted their houses wouldn't do something like that.

I know people in DG who frequently ordered an extra dish whenever they ate out and would give it to a homeless person on their way back. DG and ADPi frequently have some of the highest GPAs amongst chapters.

SK, Zeta, Aphi, and Theta all have their own negative stereotypes, but I think they have a lot of diversity in their involvement on campus and in PHC. Most Greek life girls I meet from campus clubs are from one of these houses.

ChiO and Delta Sigma went through a lot in the past year and I have a lot of respect for them.

TriDelt, ChiO, and Zeta are all really invested and hardcore with their philanthropies.

The list could go on.

Honestly no house is perfect, but just because they're not perfect doesn't mean they're not respectable. I think all houses are in one way or another.

I'm actually really glad I found this comment. I'm a PNM and I've been reading a lot of bashing that made me question whether this was for me, but I'm glad to see someone being positive.

There is so much that is positive in our system overall that seems to be lost when looking at comments in isolation on this website. Yes, much of the commentary on this site holds some level of truth for the poster but these individuals comments make it rough for a new person to get a sense of the community and the greek experience. I'm a senior and I have hung with this system now for 3+ years. Some people in my house dropped as junior (mainly for financial reasons) but I am glad to have stayed. The sisterhood/friends, leadership opportunities, training experience, fun time, events etc. have all been something that I don't think I would have seen at Cal outside the greek system. In many ways I think some of the things I've experienced in my house will serve me long after I leave Cal and for this I am grateful. This might all sound a bit hokey but looking back on the experience (complete with ups and downs and a fair amount of drama) has totally been worth it. Would not have given this experience up for anything.
