sorority rush advice
by: rushi'm rushing in the fall and i'm curious as to what rush is like? Its a 5 day process but besides that I haven't gotten any information. What type of outfits/shoes do we need to wear? How long is it? (all day or just at night/mornings) etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated! I know people can't really give out specific details but I would love to just get some advice about rush in general and some tips! I'm nervous and also excited and I hope to end up in a house where I fit in and i've seen a lot of posts here where people hate their houses so I really hope that doesn't happen to me

This could make or break your college experience !!! Dress to impress, spend the extra money on nicer clothes, nails, hair, etc. and don't over do it on the makeup, natural beauty look.
But at the end of the day, everyone winds up where they belong. Please don't drop the recruitment process if you wind up not getting called back to "top" houses, or houses you wanted. Stick it through, and wherever you get a bid is meant for you. You'll find great and relatable girls in each house.

Hello @Freshman! I can see that nobody really knows what's happening so here is a brief rundown of the days / dress code for each day. The first day of rush is Thursday August 24th! As the above person said, this really does make or break your college experience. dress to IMPRESS and look your absolute best. have a ton of ENERGY because its going to be a long process and nobody likes talking to tired/unenergetic girls rushing. without any further adieu:
Thursday 24th - UNITY DAY (starts at 6pm)
--This is the first day of rush! You see ALL the houses! Unity day is different this year because usually PNM's would be seeing all 14 houses in one day, but this year unity day has been split into two days to make it less hectic / exhausting for the PNMs and the sorority members.
--this is the most CASUAL day. wear something cute and CASUAL. aka jeans, sandals and a nice top, a casual cotton dress and sandals/adidas, appropriate shorts and a cute top etc.
--you will be going to 6 houses on this day and you will be meeting a LOT of girls. rest up the night before and chug a coffee in the morning - you'll need it
Friday 25th - UNITY DAY PART 2 (starts at 5pm)
--You will see the remaining 8 houses! Same dress code as the first day- CUTE/CASUAL
--By the end of this day you will have seen ALL the houses at cal and you are one step closer to finding your home.

Saturday 26th - SISTERHOOD DAY (Starts at 10 am)
--On this day, you will be narrowed down to 11 houses!
--Attire on this day is CUTE / CASUAL again! this is going to be a LONG day because you will be going to eleven houses and talking with about 33 different sorority members ! crazy right?!
--This day is about hearing what the sisterhood is like in each house. You will get to know more about each house and the people living there
--You will ALSO get a tour of each of the 11 houses to see what life is like in each of them!
Sunday 27th - PHILANTHROPY DAY (Starts at 10 am)
--At this time, your houses have been narrowed down to 8
--You will go to the remaining 8 sororities and watch a presentation about the different philanthropies that each of the houses work with
--Attire: BUSINESS CASUAL - a dress and sandals, a dress and heels, a nice jacket / blazer and pants, a skirt and jacket etc. LOOK PRESENTABLE and cute! look more dressed up than the first two days
Monday 28th - PREFERENCE NIGHT (Starts at 6:30)
--The most important night of rush... you will have narrowed down your options to 3 houses...1 of these houses will be your future home.
--Attire: FORMAL ! look AMAZING - a DRESS and HEELS... this night is a BIG DEAL
--you will visit your three remaining houses and you (& the houses you're rushing) will decide your future home!
Tuesday 29th - BID DAY
--You find out which house picked you/you picked in the end! It is a mutual selection process.
--Attire Casual

Keep your energy high and positive and treat everyone your meet as equally important (because they are!). As you go through the houses take a minute or two and step back to see how people are being treated and whether the energy in the house is naturally positive or forced/fake. Lots of comments last year on how people felt they were treated and how they didn't feel comfortable or they felt ignored. Try to find a house where you feel like you were honestly welcomed and will be a valued sister. Sisterhood is important over the long run but its sometimes difficult to put it all together due to the hectic nature of recruitment. This piece of advice is a bit controversial but I believe it makes a difference, TALK TO FELLOW PNMs! You might make another friend or meet a future sister and you will most likely get some good 411. Keep it real.
