the fun sororities
by: FreshmanHi I'm gonna be rushing in the fall and I've been stalking this site to try to get a feel for Greek life at Cal and I'm just trying to figure out what the fun sororities are. I know someone's gonna say "all houses are beautiful and fun!" But honestly, I don't care about ranks (y'all seem obsessed btw) as long as it's a respected house and even though I plan on giving them all a fair shot, I don't want to end up joining a house whose nationals are breathing down their neck. My older sister joined a chapter (not at Cal) that sent her to standards for going to parties and stuff and I want to avoid a house that's a stickler about all of that. I know this sounds bad, but I really want to party and I want a house that kinda embraces that culture instead of desperately protecting their reputation. Thanks!

I won't call you arrogant, but you should really try to keep an open mind going through recruitment. sorority life isn't all about partying but to your credit, it never really gets talked about during recruitment and neither do codes of conduct so here's my two cents.
Normally I'd recommend Chi o, but they just got in HUGE trouble with nationals so this year wouldn't be the best if you want to avoid "nationals breathing down your neck". Aphi parties a lot but they care A LOT about their rep. Like it's kinda ridiculous. Adpi kinda seems like the "stickler" house you described... conservative nationals, take pics of other sorority girls partying at unaffiliated frats, care HELLA about GPA, and I hear their advisors go to their date parties. This is all hearsay, but those are the only houses that came to mind while reading your post. Frankly, ALL the houses have standards and national advisors (especially if you want to rule out DS) and ALL houses still party. I respect you for knowing what you want, but it might not be so easy to find it. Focus on the girls themselves and you'll be fine

despite the fact that this question is annoying haha i will still try to answer... pi phi, kappa, a phi, chi o and sk 9and maaaaaaaaybe dg if we are really pushing it) are considered the "partyish" fun houses while adpi would be the house that is extremely reserved and strict
