rushing as a sophomore for sororities?

by:

Rising sophomore here, last fall I was heavily considering rushing FFR but decided against it in order to explore other stuff. Now I've met different girls that are from different sororities and they all convinced me that it was a great experience. Has anyone rushed as a sophomore and if so what did you think of it?

I rushed as a sophomore and it was a little tough but also fun! Houses meet quotas and also they don't always want to pick up a lot of sophomores. More sophomores rush than you think so houses will have to decide which sophomores they want, etc. I have heard it is easier rushing as a junior but I would go for it if I were you and rush this fall! You don't have anything to lose and I met a bunch of great girls who were sophomores also going through rush which was comforting! I was bummed during rush when I would get dropped from houses I really liked but there was one house I loved throughout rush and it was the one I ended up in! This was just my experience but all experiences will be different. Go in with an open mind and forget about what people say on Greek rank and make friends with the people in your rush group also :)

I rushed as a sophomore as well! I agree that it was tricky going through rush as some houses do have set quotas and select primarily freshman and junior based classes (because they already have a lot of sophomores from the previous year). So it did suck going through rush and feeling like I had a good experience at a house only to be dropped in favor of a freshman (although that's not always the reason!!). Definitely prepare yourself to be asked repeatedly why you decided to rush as a sophomore. It can feel like you're being heavily scrutinized but honestly most of the time they're just trying to get to know your background! I honestly am really happy I rushed my sophomore year, I was much more confident in myself and my place at Cal and got a lot more out of the experience of rush itself as I was able to relax without the pressure of finding my friend group the second I got to college. Joining as a sophomore worked out great as well, I was lucky to have a decent amount of other sophomores in my pledge class and make friends with girls of all years! Good luck with rush, hope it goes well :)

i rushed as a soph and it was definitely a good decision. i ended up in a much better place than i would've if i rushed as a freshman. it is harder (though girls during rush will never say that outright) but i still met a bunch of other sophomores who all love where they're at now. honestly just go for it!

It might be easier to rush as a junior because sororities have a certain quota where they are allowed to take more juniors than sophs!

Please don't listen to the above poster. Rush when you are ready, and ASAP. The next Cal recruitment opportunity is here NOW and you may never get another. If you decide during recruitment 2017 that sorority life isn't for you, you'll have decided that NOW. Always act like there is no tomorrow.
