Any updates as to what houses will be holding COB events in the spring?

Don't think there will be much activity sadly after many large classes in the Fall. But might see something from the newly renamed AOPi now that they have sorted out their situation. Not sure I understand the situation to tell you the truth but it looks like they aren't nationally affiliated but still came up with some housing arrangement. Contact them if you are interested. The house I'm in had a huge pledge class this past fall so won't be doing COB. I think most of the houses that had large classes in the fall will most likely skip the Spring COB but stay tuned as things might change.

I heard through the grapevine that Kappa has had a number of people leave recently so they might their ongoing secret COB thing yet again. You have to know someone though so check around in your dorm to see if you can network in (assuming you want to of course!). I heard APhi wasn't going to do Spring due to large fall class. DG has had ongoing issues with retention over the past year or so but if they do anything it will be secret COB most likely. PiPhi had a huge class too so I wouldn't expect them to do Spring either. You can probably figure out who will and won't do Spring COB by looking at pledge class size from fall. ADPi has been having some retention issues as well so maybe they might look to add a few people in Spring but would expect them to do secret COB thing too. Keep your ears to the ground and you might get some better information. Good luck.

anything about AXO or SK?

Doubt SK will, they had the largest pledge class last Fall and a near perfect retention rate.

I'm assuming most houses don't know yet (with the big pledge classes) how the numbers for spring will change.

If you are really interested in a house, message their VP of Recruitment and ask! (Probably the week classes start since I'm pretty sure PHC hasnt given people numbers yet.)

I had been to "secret" COBs my freshman year before doing Fall Formal later, but it's not like they tell you to keep it a secret. If they are doing "invite only/secret" COB, the worst they will say is that an active member has to fill out a recommendation for you.

You should ask a friend in a sorority. If their is COB it will likely be super secret and not open to just anyone.

I heard that both APhi and DG lost 10 members each so will be doing the super secret thing AGAIN. So you will have to find someone at each house and try to network yourself in. Two people on my floor were approached by Kappa sisters last week so it seems like they might be doing the super secret thing too. Does anyone know why this super secret process is allowed to persist? Seems like it just causes hard feelings.

Kappa hasn't lost from anybody, the house is at full capacity with live ins, and once again has no reason to do COB (secret or not), and has most definitely not been approaching people to join.

These are the only public COBs I know of so far:

1. Gamma Phi Beta - they have a FB event

2. Delta Delta Delta - also have a FB event

3. Zeta Tau Alpha - no FB event, but details are up on their FB page.

You can also email the recruitment chair of any given chapter to find out if they're recruiting. I think there's probably a handful of chapters that just have a few spots to fill and aren't doing a bunch of events. Also stay posted for AOPi in case they decide to recruit this semester - not sure what their situation is moving forward since we really haven't heard anything other than rumors.

I heard SK is doing COB from someone in one of my classes. I would check with them directly to make sure if you are interested. Even though someone on here denies that Kappa is not doing COB, I have heard directly from 2 people that they were approached. Maybe Kappa has a new recruitment 'thing' that is so secret that its not even considered 'super secret COB'. Ha Ha. Leave it to Kappa ladies to innovate on something like this! Gotta love em'.

Yes it seems like super super secret COB is back at kappa, dg and aphi. Very discrete and only confirmable if you know someone that was approached and I've only managed to dig up 3 people. I guess everyone is dealing with retention issues.

Is COB still happening throughout the semester or is it pretty much over?

COB, COB of the secret and super secret is sadly never over and thats why the practice needs to be eliminated. If you are interested in a house then just try to meet as many people as you can and maybe it will work for you. Good luck.

Just wanted to post and say that COB of the super secret variety is alive and well. My roommate just got a bid from one of the three houses that is always mentioned here. So, dont believe the lies they are posting. Almost every house has retention issues and so needs to fill up the house.

How is allowing the opportunity of COB sorority membership to another person, if it is done according to both the specific org's and the panhellenic's rules, distasteful to so many here? Having ONE spot open should not mean a sorority hosts an open party where 25 women sign-up to attend that ONE chance to belong. That's fooling and wasting the time of the 24 people who will not be chosen, and the energy and time of the house involved, whether or not the one chosen was pre-known to the host org.

Many years ago that distasteful "25 invited/attending for one open spot" situation used to happen all the time around the country, because it gave the orgs the excuse of practicing their recruitment skills without having to add new members. Some houses went so far as to hold several COB parties for groups of women, with absolutely no bids planned because the house was already at total.

I do not believe we want to return to those bad old days so the next best thing is a house with very few openings COB bids a person, or very few people, already known to them. If that is done in a way people consider super shady and secret, assumptions could be wrong. Now if these bids and initiations are leading to houses going above total, then please inform the greeks in charge. No house should COB if they are at or above house total.
