aoii is now local chapter, delta sigma

by:

They have changed their instagram @deltasigmaberkeley and tumblr to reflect this and some sister have been wearing Delta Sigma apparel. Thoughts? Are they gonna do a large spring recruitment then? Where did the name come from?

Happens not infrequently in the fraternity world. See Kappa Alpha Order, Inc. v. Texas Omicron and UT Texas Omicron Educational Corp.

Here is link to 'official' information posted by the national.
h t t p:// www. alphaomicronpi. org/ sigma- chapter- house- information

Just remove spaces in the link and do search. They even have a 'video' about the situation.

h t t p s :// www.insidehighered.com/quicktakes/2015/08/05/alpha-omicron-p i-drops-recognition-house-over-property-dispute

Just take out single spaces between the letters h t t p and after the // to read the article...mentions some of the fall out from the Minnesota case.

Since they own the house outright (gift from the Dean of the Architecture School) I can not understand why the Nationals would not compromise with "one of their oldest single letter chapters". Many Nationals own newer houses and/or manage older ones via a Management Corp. when they don't have dedicated alum available to do so. Alumnae that care way more than some hired non greek management co. with processes that just frustrate membership.

Well said @PanLove. Serious shade from national but we will probably never know the entire story. Sad. The national should be banned from our campus.

I have to say that the ladies of sigma have done a very poor job of managing their message to the broader Cal community. Initially I had some sympathy for their awful plight but after months of no communication I really wonder if they will simply die out over the next few years. Its sad but I also wonder if it was avoidable. Not sure.

Their timing isn't up to you or me. Perhaps they are in the midst of legal maneuvers and cannot make statements to the public at this particular time. Let's give them additional time and see where it leads them (and eventually us if we remain interested). Rome wasn't built in a day.

I am an AOII Alumni (UCB class of 2008), I came across this sight by accident and after reading a few posts/replies I feel pity. In the words of Oprah:

"Some people just need to die."
-Oprah Winfrey

A new generation is here and the old generation will die (no offense old ladies; it's just a part of life). This is a wrong doing and shame on those that try and justify it as otherwise. We are all of age to know right from wrong; there is no excuse. I wonder how those that contributed to this tragedy would feel if their homes were taken from them, if they were stripped of their name and their title? Judgement day comes for us all and what comes around goes around.

To the NEW/NOW generation (members):
Regardless of the sorority or campus you are in/at, never forget your worth. Without you sororities would NOT exist (aka: the higher-ups work for you). You have ALL the power, it's your money and what you say goes. Don't go crazy with that b/c you will look stupid. However, if you see a wrong doing (like this) and come together as a community to help then no one can say anything bad about you for doing so. In times of need you put aside all those things that are less important than your final exam (I was making a joke), you put aside all the BS. It's your time now and I apologize for the wrong doings that you had to witness and endure as your elders this is an embarrassment and for those not in AOII I hope this never happens to you. Thank you to all the sisters, brothers, staff, humans, etc. that helped in supporting AOII throughout this tragedy; it will not be forgotten. The Panhellenic community is strong (especially current members) and if we come together, we can prevent future wrong doings, like this from ever happening again.

You have conveniently forgotten the largest number of strong women responsible for the growth and well-being of any NPC home, their alumnae. These initiated sorority women have been working longer for the betterment of their sororities than collegiate members. Sororities may not continue to exist without alumnae guidance and backing at many levels of NPC operation. Do you suppose The Founders of any NPC group were dismissed as sorority members once they graduated from university? No. Instead each Founder normally took it upon herself to strengthen and make prosperous their home-from-home so succeeding generations of university women might involve themselves in a long-standing collegial fraternal group.
