aoii is now local chapter, delta sigma

by:

They have changed their instagram @deltasigmaberkeley and tumblr to reflect this and some sister have been wearing Delta Sigma apparel. Thoughts? Are they gonna do a large spring recruitment then? Where did the name come from?

Delta is also the Tufts AOII chapter that half of the girls left due to problems with AOII national accepting a trans member. So maybe they're banding together to create Delta Sigma?

It's not uncommon for local chapters to use "Delta" then their previous chapter name. So here it's Delta + Sigma (chapter). I'm thinking it's because Delta in math is used for change? But that's the nerd in me.

I've seen a couple before-- it happened a lot in the 70s/80s when National Organizations wouldn't allow bids to be extended to people of color. Most of them were reabsorbed when the nationals changed their policies. Not sure how the other Delta Sigmas are related though.

Nice to see that this info is posted on greekrank but not mentioned by our crack team on panhel! WTF. I have to wonder why any member of the former AOPi is on the panhel given that they are no longer affiliated with a national? I am baffled as to why this is ok on any level and would not be allowed to happen at any other school. I have no axe to grind with AOPi AT ALL. What happened to their chapter is tragic and I think its great that they somehow got it together and figured something out. My issue is that they are now effectively a non-affiliated organization. I don't understand how we can have a non-affiliated organization member hold 'leadership'/officer role/s on Panhel? Does anyone have an answer for this question? I'm confused.

You can stop being discourteous toward one another 'liz' and 'alex, especially if you are actually ONE person arguing on this page with herself.

If either 'liz' or 'alex' were a true Cal Greek woman, she/they would already understand the current AOII situation as it concerns Cal panhellenic.

The public, in general, are not entitled to completely know the situation between Cal's panhellenic and its individual members.

So please refrain, 'liz' and 'alex', from commenting upon a situation where you do not belong and which you do not need to understand.

To 'With Age Comes Wisdom', I am not sure in your case that this is true and I'm not sure what exactly you are trying to say? I am part of the system and I am baffled by continued lack of leadership from Panhel on the AOPi situation. Where in our bylaws does it state that we can have a non-national panhel member as a member of our panhel or that any member of such organization can hold office?

Liz: Enjoy your month of school vacation, and make your plan to contact Cal's panhellenic advisor and/or panhellenic president when classes resume January 10th. In the meantime, the current bylaws of the Cal panhellenic (amended in September 2016 and approved in October 2016) are available online for your perusal.

I realize what happened with the situation but I am baffled by we are getting grief for talking about it here or anyplace else? I feel as if the thought police are now on greekrank after reading comments from 'with age comes wisdom'. As far as I can see the only thing that 'age' seems to brought this person is a condescending and judgmental attitude that honestly doesn't do much to foster commentary or the flow of ideas amongst posters on this site. A question to 'with age comes wisdom': Do you honestly think people would be posting here if there was a safe and comfortable place to ask these questions or express doubt and disappointment in what we experience as members of this cal community? We are surrounded by a community where more people than not seem to want to just go with the flow and not rock the boat because they are afraid of repercussions and gossip. Perhaps something you haven't yet learned with 'age' is that change is inevitable and its rarely without discomfort and some pain. Not sure why you want to stifle discussion and sharing of ideas.....

Liz, the correct definition of thought police is thought suppressors.

I responded to your post by guiding you toward Cal's Greek Advisor and Panhellenic President as well as Cal's publicly available, online panhellenic bylaws. Those persons and places would be the logical choice for you to begin to answer your important questions.

If you contacted those persons and read-through those ideas prior to posting here, I did not know it because I don't read minds.

But if I did, I would say Alpha Gamma Delta strongly desires to be the next sorority invited to Cal. Just a thought.

To 'with age comes no/limited wisdom'. I stand by the thought police statement made previously and as used by Orwell. Given the tone and substance of your comments its seems like you might be well versed in the work of Orwell as you seem to be a member of the Cal Greek thought police. Why are you lurking here and simply judging? Not sure people are posting here for judgement but rather to seek information and possibly vent. If you don't see the parallels in our greek life and Orwell, I'm not sure what to tell you. If you truly have wisdom to share then by all means share. But we don't need or want unsolicited judgement. Why you seem to be compelled to be an apologist for an antiquated dysfunctional system that shows no signs of moving with the times is simply beyond me.

Please contact and plan a campus visit(s) from the National Panhellenic Conference Area Advisor and/or National Panhellenic Conference Consulting Team within the next year. They are always ready, willing and able to somehow assist and improve any campus panhellenic should they (or you as a panhellenic member) be willing to ask.

Liz, I am sorry if your first post and alex's subsequent posts on this page were not posts originating from only one person. As I read it 'liz' and especially multiple 'alex's appeared to cross-post as if in real conversation using the same poster name and oddly similar language. The use of childish and rude language by 'alex' led me to believe he/she was not enrolled at Cal, thus my original post suggesting 'alex' and/or 'liz' stop the rude comments and stay out of a situation where they did not belong.

Then you, liz, continued asking thoughtfully for information and several posters provided information by mentioning 1) aopis are no longer on the board; 2) the NPC and Cal's panhellenic and its advisor should be notified of your concerns.

Just because you did not agree with our given information or had previously contacted those persons unbeknownst to us doesn't mean we are thought police. We aren't demanding you agree with us and it's possible your interactions with those we led you to have been unsuccessful.

Sometimes a poster on this board will not foster further commentary because they have successfully answered someone's inquiry. From reading your posts, my given information led you to be further frustrated in your endeavors to move Cal's panhellenic up to your standards. You state you get grief from talking about Cal's problems here and anyplace else. Would that include within your own sorority home?

If it's true that Delta Sigma is recruiting in Spring perhaps women turned off by regular Cal recruitment or hush-hush COB will join the sorority and make for themselves an aboveboard, new Greek home.

Are they keeping their hosue

by: Hello

Yes. The Sigma chapter alumni own the house, not AOII Internationals, so there would be no reason for the chapter to lose it. Girls are still living there and using the house.

What is Delta Sigma

By: udontgohere
by: news

Delta Sigma is the successor group to AOPi...non affiliated organization presently residing in the old AOPi house. Everyone is trying to figure out how this group will function within the existing panhel structure given that they can't be a member of panhel as they are not affiliated with a national organization. So, I don't believe (unless corrected otherwise) that they can participate in fall recruitment. My guess is they do some kind of parallel recruitment effort or ongoing COB. I don't have any inside insight at all and just know a few people in the group. My bet is that this entire non affiliated effort is a work in progress given the situation they have had to deal with since the fall.

Dear Sigma alumnae, Sigma collegians, and California Alumnae Chapter Presidents --

Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity is sincerely disappointed that it has been unable to achieve a resolution with Sigma 1916, Inc., the local housing corporation for Sigma Chapter. It is with our deepest regret that their intentional refusal to comply with the Fraternity’s Governing Documents has placed the Fraternity in the position to enforce disciplinary measures which will have repercussions upon the Sigma Chapter.

Please be advised that effective as of September 3, 2015, the current Sigma Chapter house will no longer be recognized as an AOII facility. After that date, no AOII activities will be permitted at the location. In addition, Sigma will no longer have permission to use or display the name “Alpha Omicron Pi,” the Greek letters “AOII,” or any other Fraternity trademarks or insignia, and the letters on the house will have to be removed. Although it will no longer be a recognized AOII facility, members may continue to live in the house per the terms of their housing agreements with Sigma 1916, Inc.

Be assured that the Fraternity will continue to provide the necessary support and guidance to assist the chapter during this transition. Should you have any questions, please contact a member of the Executive Board at xb@alphaomicronpi

to @c If this is being posted by the alleged AOII woman who posted and was banned earlier today on greekchat, be advised this is NOT up-to-date news regarding the situation at the (now former) AOII chapter at Berkeley. May we inquire as to your purpose in making this post?

I don't think this was fake news at the time. I think if you go to the AOPi national webpage and look at press releases that something like this announcement is part of the public domain.
