legacies?

by: Sister at another school

I'm currently an active member of a sorority (that has a chapter at Cal!) at a school in the Southeast and I'm graduating at the end of this year. My younger sister is considering rushing if she gets accepted to Cal (class of 2021) and I was wondering how being a legacy is treated here? At the school I go to it's a big deal and my chapter takes a lot of legacies and I didn't know how y'all looked at it/should I write her a legacy introduction form or will that get her released from other houses?

Just some info from this past fall that might be of interest. On my floor we had legacies from the following houses: kappa (2), dg (1 double legacy, 1), chi o (1 double legacy, 2), pi phi (3). The legacy paperwork wasn't acknowledged by kappa or dg for anyone on my floor. One of the chi o legacies was acknowledged (other was not) and none of the pi phi legacies was acknowledged. The kappa legacies were dropped after round 1. The dg legacies were dropped after round one. Of the chi o legacies, 1 was dropped after round 1 and 2 were dropped after round 2. Pi phi dropped 2 after round 1 and the 3rd person ended up prefing pi phi but pledging another house. So, the general consensus is that the houses at Cal seem to be paperwork challenged and/or frankly don't care too much about legacies. There is alot of commentary on this thread about how disappointed so many people were this fall that their legacies weren't acknowledged. In particular my understanding is that a number of kappa legacy folks ended up writing nationals as not only was paperwork not acknowledged but legacies were dropped after day 1. Hope this helps! Also, I was a kappa and dg legacy and none of my paperwork was acknowledged but I ended up pledging another house where I am very happy! Good luck!
