panhel and race relations - what is the plan ladie
by: darlaCan anyone in Panhel explain what programs are run each year to foster discussion and improve knowledge about race relations? The daily news shows tragic footage of shootings and protests. Ive only been at Cal for a year but it seems like the Panhel system is out of step with what is happening in the Berkeley community and across the country. I haven't seen one committee established to explore these issues and this is a huge disappoint to me. I also believe it reflects poorly on all of us in the community. Other schools sponsor training, host relevant authors and scholars and have standing Panhel committees. I think we are hiding under the desk about this topic especially given some of the heartfelt commentary regarding fall recruitment.

Can't believe that there is no response to this thread? We have had mass shootings virtually every day for a week along with a series of tragic police related shootings. People are marching in the streets across the country and not one person at Cal even has the courage to post anonymously on the topic? Get real sheeple!

I agree. While there are girls involved in each chapter, our system has failed to get involved as a whole and that to me is disappointing as well. It would be nice to see a change and to start working for the community rather than just working against each other. Advice: to the girls from each chapter who are involved in issues tragedies on the daily news, try to involve other girls in your chapter to think about it. It would be a good chapter meeting discussion. Not everyone in each chapter is as informed as each other so let's work to educate others!
