super secret cob
by: sallieMuch discussion in the threads about the COB process for post fall rush. Insiders seem to support the current system of completely closed and unadvertised 'meet and greet' events while those that just went through recruitment are questioning the need for secrecy. Both sides of this argument have done a fairly good job of advocating their positions. Question though is should this COB process for FALL continue on 'as is' or should panhel have stricter guidelines for the the houses? Weigh in PRO OR CON and why? Very curious where most people fall on this issue.

Just heard that kappa added 5 members and DG added 4 via the top super secret COB! Way to have a successful fall recruitment ladies (NOT)! Maybe the answer to this deplorable practice is to set a limit on the number of new members that can be added via top super secret COB...my vote is no more than 2 per house post fall recruitment...if more than 2 people are going to be added after formal recruitment then you would be required to have an OPEN HONEST TRANSPARENT PROCESS. VOTE for change ladies as this practice makes us all look bad. Yep, really really elitist closed and out of touch.

Con't.
I think that the only thing that most houses care about is $$$. So, by saying they can't take on any members post fall formal recruitment then they might chose to clean up their acts and in the process strengthen the entire system. Yes, perhaps they would look in the mirror and see why their retention is what it is, why PNMs going through recruitment consistently make the comments they do about attitude and being treated like human beings and why people de-pledge. Not sure what the value to the house and their national is of a new member. But say the dollar value is $1,500-$3,000 then there is a real penalty to the house of not being able to use super secret COB. We have seen multiple comments on this site from kappa's thinking about de-pledging and we also heard from former pi phi. I realize not every pledge is going to be a fit but to see the consistent comments made and spoken about on campus I believe there is something seriously wrong with the leadership (or lack thereof) at many houses. Look in the mirror ladies - the view from the outside and inside the system is simply not good! Just sayin.....

Thank you Jill for your insight. I'm sure the cost is there somewhere but it really would be a good idea to place it up front and center. It is a very important consideration in joining and staying in the Greek system. Cost versus benefit is an important factor in good decision making! I also think that students do not communicate information that is verbally given to them to parents before they rush. The process is overwhelming and somehow the cost gets pushed under the other noise. It's hard to dig out such information. I think when someone fills out the application to rush also ask for parents email and send an email with the cost information.. It's only reasonable that those who pay should be involved from the beginning!
