quota

by:

Does anyone know what the offical quota was and what the offical numbers are for each house? Can't believe this info hasn't been posted and people are actually guessing. Unbelievably poor communication this year for recruitment.

I also heard tonight (not a surprise) that kkg is not doing COB. What is the panhel policy on COB? Why is this stuff not available online to read so we can understand what is going on????

Historically, kkg has never done COB. Panhellenic has no strict policy on COB so it basically falls under the guidelines of each house. The ones that traditionally do COB are Gamma Phi Beta, ZTA, AChiO, Theta, and sometimes tri delt or sk. It is completely up to the house if they chose to do COB and based on the massive PCs this year there may be even less COB.

Who is even doing COB? Honestly haven't heard anything about it. Not sure how girls who actually want to do it would hear about it either...

Why is there no official communication from panhel or the university? I have friends that want to give it another go and they can't get any info.

I know Gphi did COB immediately after fall formal because I saw the FB posts. I asked a friend who is in that house and she said that what happened with that is that they had a smaller pledge class because they cut a lot of women this year. Their nationals basically gave the finger to Panhellenic who was trying to force them to invite back everyone. They then did COB right after and filled out their pledge class.

Glad to hear it! More people need to give the finger to panhel so they can control their own destiny when our system doesn't serve everyone equally. Thanks for the update as this is the best news I have since recruitment ended! GO GPHI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COB is also rigged. Last spring two girls, both minorities were blocked at APhi by someone (maybe with a personal agenda) from within the house. Both were awesome women and Aphi lost for sure. Blocking is very common and girls within the house block candidates who they don't like for some personal reason even though the pnm may be a great fit for the house.

Not surprised. Lot of women in these houses use their insider position to prevent some girls from getting in. It's actually easier to block someone from getting in than to actually bring someone in cause you have to convince many layers of women to get a bid for someone. It's wrong, hurts the house and is very hurtful to pnm's. I've actually heard girls say that they will block so and so when they rush their house! Also, all this has been going on for a long time. It was very much there last fall as well. The shutting out of minorities from top houses, the indifference, the wrongful blocking of some candidates, etc are not just new this year. They've just become exposed because people are talking about it and the mass exodus from the rush has caught the attention of some. America might have desegregated but segregation continues within the greek system to a large extent. Of course it's cultural and not imposed. In many southern schools it's total segregation I bet! Disgusting!

You are correct wtf. The ranking table for some reason just keeps popping up. Not a mystery why. If those sisters would spend half as much time looking inward and self reflecting then many of these posts wouldn't be needed. But I have a feeling that this year was a turning point and the posts will just keep on rolling. The sad thing is that because of the way people are choosing the behave its so easy to find something to post. Friend of mine had a wild experience in the library thur night. Not sure if they will share it though. Not important other than even with the posting the behavior continues. I guess my request is to not wear greek lettered clothing if you are going to behave badly. Please.....makes us all look really bad.

STFU
-You have NO idea what you are talking about. #1
-You are clearly trying to drop certain houses in the grease because of YOUR own personal agenda #2.
-these are private orgs. They/we will invite who we want. #3

You want forced anything (integrations, whatever), put your activism to work in your own life and/or join a public group. My gosh.

Stop trying to force YOUR agenda on private groups.

OMG, OMG! Not sure where you are from in Texas but I'm from Houston and we have a saying that you might not be familiar with: Better to keep your mouth shut and seem a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. I beg you to please stop as you are making your house that already looks awful even worse if such a thing is possible. If you believe the other person doesn't know what they are talking about then why not simply correct them based on your understanding of the matter? I am not getting the sense anyone has an agenda here other than expressing how they feel. I could respect you a bit more if you put your facts and truth out there for others to see and not try to shame someone by telling them to effectively shut up.

Holycrap....I think OMG/she must be from Texas! The only person I've ever heard use her phraseology 'drop in the grease' was from San Antonio. Texas, enough said. Consider the source. Holycrap I bet you are thinking of those that use that unfortunate phrase in the deep south. Hope OMG person is from Texas and using it the Texas fashion and not the deep south meaning as otherwise her house would look even worse than its looking right now. Guess she just dropped herself and her entire house in the grease! Good work OMG!

To answer the original question - the chapter VPs of membership/recruitment should have the info on quota from Panhellenic. If you want to know what the numbers were, ask your VPM/VPR. As far as why there's been no news on fall COB aside from GPhi's events a few weeks ago, that's probably because the rest of the chapters aren't doing COB or are doing private, invite-only COB. Given how high the numbers were for recruitment this year, I can understand the advantage of keeping it private to better manage the number of people being seen for COB, particularly when they only have a few spots to fill. From what I heard, quota was around 60 this year, but don't quote me on that?

Back to COB question thanks for your info. I too heard that 60 was the number from my VP. Will have to double check what the private invite only COB process involves as it too sounds more than a bit shady - almost like the concept of double secret probation. My sisters school uses the snap bid process to fill out classes. Snap bidding works because there are rules and timing etc. You either have a process or you don't have a process now I'm not sure what our process is. Props to the GPhi ladies as they handled their COB professionally and explained it clearly on their facebook page. The invite only COB sounds like a recipe for disaster. Honestly who is coming up with these completely stupid ideas? Well at least some houses won't be involved in this private COB nonsense. Do the houses that are doing COB privately realize how it looks to do that after everything that went down this fall? Seriously, WTF!
