To clarify the statement that everyone is guaranteed a bid, everyone is guaranteed a bid...if you make it to Preference Night and rank every chapter you visit that night on your preference form, which says you would be willing to receive a bid from any chapter on that list. If you do not meet the membership requirements for certain chapters, then there's really not much of a way around that, and several of them do have minimum GPAs higher than a 2.6 :/ like I told the original poster, if you have academic-specific questions, I HIGHLY recommend directing them to the Panhellenic VP of Scholarship. You can find her email on the Cal PHC website.

Based on the recruitment handbook, all of the chapters currently have minimum GPAs ranging from 2.5-3.0, so it's unfortunately a possibility. I highly recommend reaching out to the Panhellenic VP of Scholarship, as she can clarify that requirement much better than I can.

Is it absolutely unheard of though to be offered a bid with a 2.4? Or is it just in very rare cases in which they do overlook the GPA requirements?

@gobearz - the VP Scholarship is a friend of mine, and according to her it depends on the chapter. All of the listed GPA requirements are apparently national requirements, and some chapters might be very strict about that minimum while some may be more lenient. So there's really no guarantee either way on whether or not you'd get a bid, but it would definitely hurt you at several chapters. Panhellenic prides itself on academics and on having a GPA higher than the all-campus and all-women's GPA at Cal, and many chapters might not be willing to overlook that.

In all seriousness you will probably be dropped by a lot of chapters. If you make it to say two I would mention your grades. Maybe talk about what happened or how you plan to bring them up. Chapters have minimums set by their internationals/nationals and can literally get in trouble if the chapter doesn't meet them. They're taking a risk accepting PNM's like that, sell yourself as a hard worker who had a rough start. :) good luck.
