joining frat as a parent?

by: Parent

I'll be attending Berkeley next fall. I'm married with a kid (I'm 21), would it be possible for me to get bids even with my situation?

yeah go for it. age don't matter. although you may be a bit turned off by immaturity by some students but that shouldn't stop you because it's Berkeley and there are lots of smart kids. Some army veterans transfer and join when they are like 25 years old.x

Ima be honest with you man, I personally don't think it's going to work out too well. Are you a single parent? If you rush any house worth joining there's going to be a lot of mandatory stuff that's going to leave you blacked out/tired/etc. Would you be able to deal with that?

Sure there are army vets, internationals, even grad students that join frats sometimes but I've yet to meet someone that was raising a child.

Depending on the frat, time commitments vary and not sure how many houses do a hell week anymore, but those are things you'd have to consider. If you're intent on joining a fraternity I'd (probably only time ever) maybe suggest a house that doesn't haze at all or maybe something like SigEp that makes you a brother pretty much instantly so that you can make sure you have enough time to spend with your child. Raising a human being ain't no joke man
