question affffgff
by: mimiwhen does pi phi do their cob bids i’m not sure if i should wait any longer if they don’t want me
#1by: Idk
Their COB usually lasts awhile so I wouldn’t worry. And it would usually be at the end of a week for anyone doing or any type of recruitment, I would think. Pi phi is half the size of the rest of the chapters, if you identify as a woman and have a solid gpa I would be very very surprised if you didn’t get a bid. But if you’re rushing other chapters, they probably won’t wait as long because most established sororities only cob for one or two weeks
#2by: What they said
To give a panhell perspective, every chapter that COBs does it differently so it’s hard to know what to except. Larger chapters usually give bids faster, while smaller ones may have a much longer Cob period and take longer to give bids but it all depends. The thinking is usually to integrate people into the chapter as quickly as possible if it’s a pretty small class, so when some chapters cob it’s more individual, you could get a bid within a few days. When chapters don’t do it openly it may be similar with hardly any rush process at all and they just vet and bid close friends. Pi phi will be trying to take a big class, so their cob period may take longer and the bids may come all at once but I just don’t know. If you have been in their process for more than a few days and you see other people getting bids I would wonder, but if no one has you’re good. It’s also normal to just ask them how the bid process works without asking for a bid, if that question puts them off it would be weird and a big red flag. It’s not a secret that they need a big COB turnout. Don’t make it sound like omg I want a bid but just ask like “how does your process work” or “when do bids come out.” I’d agree with the above though and give you a warning, if you are COBing anywhere else, I don’t know if that’s what you meant by the comment about waiting on Pi phi, you may have to make a choice sooner rather then later because their COB period is probably not going to be as long, one or two weeks is typical for a chapter that isn’t new, so I would have that convo w pi phi sooner rather than later if that is the situation you’re in.

Yeah ofc. So I said that because from what I’ve heard from people in Pi phi it can be a little like you either love it or don’t with people, and because it may be a bit more of a commitment due to them being new and probably needing more from their members. They don’t get to be as lax on requirements for who shows up to what.
So chi o, popularity wise as far as reputation goes they are on par or a little above pi phi overall depending who you ask, so I wouldn’t let that factor into a decision. As for their reputation in other ways generally one of the most diverse groups and known for being a little more laid back and very welcoming. They are the second newest group behind Pi phi so there are probably still things to figure out but they are a little more established. Over the last few years they have been getting strong pledge classes, so honestly if I was writing this when I was a freshman it would be different but they have improved a lot. A lot of partiers but it’s not everybody, and they seem to take a lot of different types of people. It’s not the sorority to join if you want to mix with sig ep every week, but I think they have decent connections with some of the lower and maybe mid tier frats and I know probably most of the individual girls go out a bit, same with Pi phi. Honestly they would both be solid choices, I think Chio overall has a reputation for having more genuine girls, and may be an easier place for most people to make friends because they have so many different types of people and they can be a little more lax about requirements just because they have more girls. But, from what I’ve heard about pi phi if you click than you really click, so it’s just about where you see yourself honestly.

Hey girlie gonna be honest if the chapter hasn’t reached out to you by now you are not involved in their COB. You would have been contacted about those events in advance so honestly I wouldn’t keep my hopes up about them calling you. If you want to join pi phi and nothing else I would take a chance at formal recruitment but also understand you will most likely not get another bid from the chapter that has already given you one. Hope you end up joining green life or just have a great UM experience

I’m a pi phi with no idea how our COB is working but to add on to what other ppl have said, pi phi truly is a love it or hate it sorority for some reason. I happen to be on the side that absolutely loves it. I think someone mentioned being pressured into going to frats to keep up appearances. I would say this isn’t rly true except for frats that prioritize our Philo week and even then it’s not a requirement it’s just a way to say thank u. I adore pi phi but as others said, make sure u love it.
