Feeling left out not joining a sorority: Need advice
by: GHi guys I’m a freshman that decided not to rush and I’m starting to feel like I might be left out because all my friends did. Will my social life be much worse not being in a sorority or will I still be able to go to most parties or will sorority people not be /friendly w me anymore? Basically what I’m asking is do you need a sorority at UM, and what advice do you have for finding a friend group outside of Greek life? Thanks

No, u don’t need a sorority at UM to get into parties AT ALL. And if people don’t want to be friends with you because you’re not in one, they aren’t good friends. Plenty of girls here never join a sorority and have a great social life, with friends in and out of greek life. Don’t feel sad just because you’re worried you won’t be able to make friends otherwise. With that being said if you are feeling left out because you are going to miss out on the experiences they have, that’s a better reason to think about joining. You can always still do informal, pi phi did it all last semester and will likely do it all this semester too, they’re quiet about it but the link is in their insta bio. You could email panhel, someone said total got raised this year so even smaller chapters that made quota (chio and tridelt, potentially zeta or ADPI) may still do informal

joining a sorority is up to you, however, if you don’t join one that’s okay too. There is plenty of ways to make friends without being in Greek life. Look into joining some clubs on campus. Either way, you have nothing to worry about and have plenty of time to rush in the future if you choose too. Just know Greek life is different here compared to more traditional universities.
