Consider Before Srat Rush
by: my 2 cents
Oh so you’re in Deeph or SDT? You must be really fake and and rude. You’re in Zeta or ADPi? You must be average and are clearly try hards. You’re in Tri Delt or Chi O? You must have had no other choice.
This is actually ridiculous. No matter what sorority you’re in, you’re going to get hate for it. It doesn’t matter whether it’s because girls want to be you, because girls genuinely don’t like you, or a mix of both, you will ALWAYS get hate.
When I was a PNM, I made the terrible decision to stalk this website religiously. I was under the impression that it had to be boys and the general student population bringing in those upvotes and downvotes that guided me towards the “right path.” Clearly, now I can see just how wrong and pretty stupid I was. The truth is that most sororities here just self rank and use their numbers to create misleading ratios. That’s literally all that this website is. Rankings have been the same for like a decade now. They don’t change because sororities are always looking for the same kind of people. Yet people will always find excuses to continuously make posts with different versions of rankings for like seven sororities and of course they get hate because they aren’t the “standard” set of ranks.
The point is: ranks barely ever change. Why be so focused on them? It literally does not matter. As a girl, you can get into 90% of fraternity events, anyway. Joining a sorority is to join a sisterhood. I hate that it sounds so cheesy, but that is quite literally the whole point. Take rush as an opportunity to open your mind towards the sororities you visit and use this chance to gain a new perspective on the ones you didn’t feel like you would like in the first place. Only 30% of the UM population is involved in Greek Life, anyway, and the other 70% literally just do not care. So do what makes you happy and use this week to find YOUR home. Do NOT go into this with a set list of wanting to join this srat because it’s top or this one because it’s the nice one. Just erase everything from your mind and go into recruitment with a blank slate.
I hope you PNMs are able to find your home and the sisters that really make you feel like you can be who you are. Whether you find it at the “top” or “bottom,” you will be happy with the sisters you find. Trust me. Best of luck to you guys.
