Rushing for Transfers

Tbh it really depends on you and what you want. Informal rush is prob a better process in the sense that you don’t have to go through the bs of having your hand held like a child during formal recruitment by panhel and you get an immediate group of friends in the fall, but the con Is that there is less options and a lot of the sororities that do it may already have in mind who they want and take friends of sisters. Still I’d reccommend trying it if you can, especially if you’re a junior, and seeing if you like any of the groups and get a bid- you can always say no. Pi Phi will do it for sure and probably give a lot of bids, and I think zeta, ADPI and chio at least have done it since I got here but they probably won’t take as many. It could be any sorority though- it really just depends on who graduated or studied abroad or whatever.

Transfers do fine in formal though if you choose to go that way- a lot of people transfer into UM and a lot of sophomores rush cuz this isn’t like an old south greek school where they just want freshman legacies from mobile Alabama or whatever. I rushed as a transfer and got my first choice. Personally I waited til spring because I wanted to make friends and find my place in the school for a semester before jumping into a sorority, but if you join in the fall you get your girls for another whole semester and it’s a really good way to make friends at a new school. Really up to you- though I’d note since your not a freshman, and especially if you’re a junior or senior, to keep in mind that some sororities prefer freshies because they will be in for longer. They all take upperclassmen every year, just sometimes less. Usually you still get asked back to a few, but it can make the options a little tighter so it’s def important to keep an open mind.
