Take Sigma Chi and Pike. For whatever reason, they seem to have a feud going on. Lots of people say it's because they're the best. But where animosity among many college guys comes from is generally competition and rejection. They have been the most selective, statistically, for the past two or three years. That's well known. Pike prides themselves upon it and actively uses it to recruit and while Sigma Chi doesn't boast as strongly, they do not hide the fact that many will not get bids to the fraternity.
Rejection creates strong feelings. If you want something and you not only don't get it, but you can never have it, you're gonna be pissed off. It's just not that hard to figure out.
What do pissed off people do when they possibly have other allegiances and someone who their anger is directed at? They do something. And in this era, who doesn't vent on the internet?

I just noticed Sig Ep's ratings go up once since an hour ago. You should look into that... All jokes aside, you make a good point. But?
What is evident by your post is that you project your own desire/inclination to improve the outside opinion of your own associations by reprimanding those who have possibly done so more evidently.
Now from what I have said, I use the word "possibly" because you throw out the fact that a more well-known frat would statistically get more people to rate it. More traffic/interaction with the frat, higher number of people that would rate it. Ratings of a frat would be proportional to the number of people who have knowledge and opinions on it, not taking each person's desire to bother to rate into account. Add that factor in and you have a slight polarizing effect. Less people are going to bother rating Phi Delt because, well, no offense, but Phi Delt doesn't stand out as a frat that you would love or hate.

haha i could totally see beta kids boosting their rank all day. i guess sae and sigma chi may a little but but even if they are doing that, they don't need to. they're both very well respected... that being said, greeks as a whole aren't as respected as they should be. something like 13 percent of the students but hold 80%+ of the leadership positions...
