dish on the good/bad about rush

Assuming you're talking about frats. I rushed twice, once as a freshman and again this past fall, so this is my 2 cents.
The good is that you meet lots of cool guys (and girls!) you otherwise wouldn't. It's in a really chill social setting too, and if you hit it off well with some guys you'll get invited to all the fun stuff that week. Everyone's got a funny rush week story or two lmao
The bad is that at UM, it's ridiculously competitive. Some frats last spring had 200-300+ kids sign in to their rush events, and most only give 25-35 bids. And for some frats, especially top-tier ones, if you don't fit the rich, WASP-y NY/NJ/CT demographic or have inside "connections" then it's tough to get noticed.
Definitely go in with an open mind and keep your options open. In the end everything happens for a reason. Good luck homie!

A lot of kids who aren’t top tier material decide to suicide rush the top 3 and end up not getting bids. With some frats having 300+ kids rushing for roughly 25 spots, a lot of guys aren’t gonna make it. Keep your options open and try to diversify where you’re looking. Look for connections with brothers and where you fit in best, not just who has the “best reputation”. Just my two cents but do whatever you want.

Most of the tops already have a good idea of the kids they want come rush week. It sucks that rush is only a week cuz it means you won’t have the luxury of rushing as many places if you get dropped by a few frats. God speed
