pledge drop

by: Pls help

Spent the weekend with the pledge class and brothers and realized I accepted the wrong bid. I just don’t belong in that frat and can’t see my self enjoying the brotherhood. Can I drop out of the pledge process and rush other frats in the fall? I know I’ll probably get balled at the frat I’m rushing but will it matter at other frats.

What do you mean you don't belong? Hazing too bad? If you do drop you'll probably have to pledge a different type of frat if you even get a bid again.

No I mean the guys and the pledge class is just different. I don’t vibe with them. Joining a frat is a mutual process - i add to the frats value and the frat adds to my value but I just don’t see either of those things happening if I stay.

You're not gonna get great advice for your situation on this website. You will need to talk to at least 3 people.

1. The active who rushed you hardest. Sometimes doing fun things with kids who really like you can help things. He might introduce you to a chick or smoke you up if he's chill.

2. Your pledgemaster. Despite what you might think, he actually probably likes you and wants to make things work. You aren't the first kid to feel weird after a lineup. Pledge class unity is critical

3. Chapter President. If you still want to drop you'll need chapter President to know about it. You've probably seen some things already. That puts the chapter at risk. Also he might have some insight for you.

You better be a stud if you want to drop and then get another shot. Most chapters have real issues with this. You'd have to be okay with the real possibility that you'd be independent

Dude. Every pledgeship will start like this. I don't care what chapter we're talking about. In 4-5 weeks you will be tighter with these guys than your high school bros.

Fundamentally a pledgeship is taking a group of different guys, a lot of them who don't know each other that well, and building a brotherhood that will have each other's backs from that starting point.

That other frat you were considering. If they run anything like a respectable process you'd be in the exact same position right now. Every dude feels kind of this way at the start. Unless the other chapter is way higher ranked and has promised you a guaranteed fall bid you're wasting your time to drop now.

how would frats know when I rush in the fall though? also, i am literally dropping after 3 days of pledging and i have a legit reason to drop. so firstly, they wouldn't know. second, even if they knew, i'd tell them why i dropped.

Dude if you think you absolutely can't do it, do yourself and the frat a favor by dropping. Pledging is a long process and it usually gets harder and dropping early is definitely the best thing to do if you can't take it.

As for rushing other frats, this is not going to affect your chances much. Firstly, people forget. No one's going to remember after 6 months about you dropping out. Secondly, if other frats think you fit in the frat and you're cool, they'll still give you a bid even if they know you dropped out of another frats pledge process because of not fitting in.
