is recruitment at um always like this??

by: PNM That dropped

So many attractive, smart, great girls fell through the cracks this year! Does this usually happen and why? So many people told us to trust the process and it failed a large amount of girls. Should we try informal recruitment and how does that work? Or should we rush again as sophomores? What did we do wrong and how can we get into a sorority that is truly right for us??

i couldnt agree more. it also felt like no one was looking out for us. not that i expected to get babied through the process but i dont think the rho gammas could actually care less if we were happy or not because so many awesome girls were straight up dropped from everything its insane

what more could the rho gammas have done though? they don't have any control over where we get invited back

Grow up. As an ex-alumni in a so called top tier sorority now. You younger girls or your generation need to quit being babied and grow tf up. Don’t go on here and complain cause it doesn’t do a thing

did you end up with no sororities inviting you back or did you decide to drop? if it is the first one then i believe sororities that choose to do informal recruitment can reach out to you to invite you back. if it was your choice to drop then you'll have to wait for next year.

as for your second question, i'll phrase it this way... there are ppl who are disappointed every year. each sorority can only take so many girls. it's probably not that your sororitys where you had good convos didn't like you. it's just that they liked over 100 other girls better than you.

it's cool if you like that sorority still and want to try next year. but i will stick up for the rho gammas and panhell and say that they aren't lying when they say "you'll end up where you're supposed to." if you go through rush, you'll end up where girls are excited to be friends w you and hang out.

formal rush i think does a terrible job of showing pnms what day to day goes on in a sorority in terms of hanging out with your sisters. its not all glitz and glamour and cool outfits and insta-worthy videos all the time. most of it is having more ppl to say hi to on the way to class, hanging in the suite (which looks way less impressive and more home-y when there aren't a bajillion girls crammed into it), getting ready for parties together, snapchats, and discovering more ppl that have similarities with you bc of your new sorority.

if you are going for a top tier and you won't feel like you're getting your money's worth unless you get in i'm not gonna bash you for feeling that way. you're definitely not alone in that sentiment and that's okay. but that's not what panhell is guaranteeing so if that's what pnms are expecting then ofc they will feel like the system failed them. if you're actually looking for ppl that like you and a place to fit in then i think you should cut greek life some slack. every sorority has its merits and there are really cool, attractive girls in every sorority. recruitment can't even begin to show you that though so sometimes even though it sucks to get "rejected" (i.e., not liked enough) by the sorority you wanted, you need to give wherever you end up a chance.

good luck in the future, whether you decide to informal, formal, or no more recruitment at all

^ So Chi O was the only one left on my list and the other one I wanted me dropped me on Pref day. So I can still do informal because I didn't sign the pref papers pretty sure. I wasn't into a "top" sorority, just one that I felt I vibed best with

i think this is what she is referring to. a ridiculous amount of girls got dropped by everyone but chi omega. we’re not whining about not getting invited back to top tiers we’re just wondering if this is normal each year because it seems like a crazy trend

a lot of pnms get dropped right before pref unfortunately. even if you rush another year it would still happen again because it's the same sororities. it really sucks and im sorry that happened to you!! you should definitely do cob if you didn't sign the papers! or if you have friends that just joined a sorority you want you might have a better chance next year (although I'm pretty sure you're only guaranteed a bid if you're a freshman) i really hope it works out for you!!! <3<3<3

yeah I heard it's basically who you know and a lot of sororities already know who they want before hand.

Yes unfortunately this is a trend and happens every year. Chi O, Tri delt, and adpi all do COB sometimes though! Just make sure to express how badly you want to join a sisterhood if you decide to do COB. Above anything else they just want to see someone who really wants to be there and will be involved and passionate. I think you’ll have a great shot and plus COB is a lot more low key and informal.

If you still had sororities on your card and chose to drop out, you didn't fall through the cracks so stop feeling bad for yourself. If you really got dropped then I'm honestly sorry, that sucks and just goes to show how girls who choose to drop themselves then complain about the process aren't grateful for the opportunities they had. If you're the latter type, you really may have gotten looked over and could do well in COB, best of luck!
