transfer
by: EhhfjsiwifHow big is Greek life here? I want to transfer from Bama but I know my sorority doesn't have a chapter here. Especially I would be nervous making friends because I wouldn't know anyone and wouldn't have the advantage of my sorority. I'm from LA and feel like Miami would be a better fit overall.

I transferred from an sec school, with big greek life, and here's what I can tell you:
1. The greek parties are not as big nor as plentiful. At my old school there were close to 1,000 kids who would come to our parties where as at Miami it's usually between 200-500. Also, on any given going out night, only 2-3 frats maybe throwing down versus however many would at my old school. With that being said, the parties at my old school were far more tame and usually had a lot less people dancing and a lot more conversing.
2. The type of parties at Miami are very different. Everything at my sec school was centered around mixers, date parties, and registered parties. Miami is very big into pool parties, off-campus house parties, and buses to a club/bar. There are still rps but they're usually not as extravagant nor have as many people go to them.
3. The tailgating is going to be very different. Instead of having to dress up and casually drink beer, you rage pretty hard. You pound drinks and party in a more ultra styled setting. Before you may have gotten moderately drunk and a decent time but when you go to a Miami tailgate, you're most likely gonna be smashed.
All in all I prefer Miami's greek life and party setting to my sec school. If you were like me you have probably gotten sick of sec styled greek parties and want something else. At Miami, you will be able to party with greeks and also be able to go to sobe/brickell/the grove etc... which is a whole nother story.
