snap bids?
by: I'm confusedSo far I've heard of zeta, alpha chi, and dz giving snap bids... I've never heard of anyone giving out bids past bid day except for sigma kappa. Can someone explain to me why they're giving out bids still? And is everyone doing it?

In simple terms:
All interested independents should call the Panhellenic office.
You can't rely on hearsay as to who is bidding and who is not since you don't want to miss an opportunity.
Every sorority in the U.S. has given out snap bids or used Continuous Open Bidding at one time or another. This is not to be seen as an embarrassment! Each of our nationals wants us to fill open spots - as do we - so there will almost always be at least one open spot per semester.
So what if you don't have a formal Bid Day? I'm assuming you'd agree that it's better to go Greek via C.O.B. or a snap bid than not at all? You'll get an extra semester in a chapter plus avoid re-rushing as a sophomore. Not that it's bad to rush your second year but take every opportunity that you can.
GOOD LUCK!

A majority of sororities have been participating in COB, and its definitely not a bad thing or a negative reflection on the chapter to be doing so. I think it has but I know a negative connotation because historically only Sigma Kappa ever has to do it, but I know for my organization (which had a large group of sisters graduate in Spring 15) we didn't make total (the number determined by the average number of members in our PHA chapters) even though we made quota this fall. Its totally possible to make quota but not total, and the number of snap bids extended has nothing to do with new members dropping, as the chapter knows how many they will have to extend as soon as bid day occurs. People need to stop viewing COB as shameful, if practically everyone has to do it to some extent then its more likely because our Greek life is growing so rapidly! Just be excited that more women are getting the chance to be Greek, AND CHILL THE F OUT.

Chi O, Adpi, KD, and DZ all have had no girls drop and were above quota. What happened with Zeta is unusual but they had multiple girls drop. My good friend was dropped by them during recruitment, left recruitment, and then got a call from a zeta asking if she was still interested in being in their chapter. They brought her to the house, gave her a tank and a bag of goodies from bid day, and then before the day was over asked for all of it back and said "we actually can't give you a bid, sorry." This is unfortunately a true story and one that has made me disgusted at zeta.
