what's the point of even joining a sorority?

I'm in an incoming freshman who's curious (was curious) about joining a sorority at UCR and wanted to find out more info on each chapter but when I read all these reviews on the sororities, all I see is people bashing other chapter for stupid reasons or saying that they suck because their girls aren't pretty enough or not as social. Like, is this what it's about? Why join? What do I get out of it? Or is just a bunch of stupid drama that's going to take away from the real reason I'm going to college?

First of all, if you're a PNM looking on this website to get whatever answers you need, it has to be hands down the worst and dumbest thing you can do. The best thing for you to do is to go through recruitment and use what you have seen visiting the sororities during recruitment to decide which house would be best for you. If you are hesitant signing up, you can always ask questions for the members on their chapter's social media networks. Why you're making conclusions off of this website is beyond me. Its not logical.

I was directed here by someone on Facebook because I wanted to find out more about each chapter before the year starts, so seeing all these negative reviews on here is obviously going to make me come to a negative conclusion.
