if you're planning on rushing and have already narrowed your choices down to these two sororities just because they may be top houses, then you should really reconsider joining a sorority at all. why not keep an open mind and wait to see for yourself what sorority you would best fit in? say you did end up going kappa. you would be joining for all the wrong reasons and you wouldn't be able to be yourself because they are all about appearances. i personally don't think that being accepted into a "top house" is worth giving up a chance to find a sisterhood where i can be myself and happy.

keep in mind that rush is a two-way thing. even if you did pick kappa or gamma phi, they have to pick you back as well. remember that top tiers tend to be more selective. try to keep an open mind so that just in case you don't get into one or either houses, you still have another to fall back on and won't be disappointed.

both tend to come off as more stuck up than other sororities but i personally think kappas are more real and down to earth. i have friends in both sororities and the girls i know in gamma phi are more prissy and uptight. the girls i know in kappa are more humorous and blunt.

Well. . .Kappa is the dirtiest of the dirty rushers. They basically already have their pledge class and they haven't even met most of the girls going through recruitment, so don't count on a bid from them; you won't get one. And if you do you'll end up dp-ing because they're sisterhood sucks and they're really mean to each other. Gamma Phi rushes the rejects of Kappa and think that they're top tier when they basically hang out with bottom tier frats. Their sisterhood is horrible as well and they go after each other's boyfriends. Gee, I wonder which one is better.
