time for change!

by:

AU greek life is held back by the stupid restrictions on sororities. It's the only large greek life school that doesn't allow sorority houses. It's high time that we get a sorority row!

Guess you don't really understand how it works. You typically lived in the house for just one year. I heard it was a money thing, too. I wish we had them.

It's about time we had houses!

I agree we should be able to have sorority houses at AU. So many out of state kids are coming and want the "full experience" which in most parts of the country includes sorority houses. Bama has them and it is a big draw for them. Come on AU

It does make for a lesser sorority experience. I've visited friends at other schools where there are houses. It is amazing and very different from our dorms.

The lack of houses does change the sorority experience. I've been to a number of surrounding schools. The houses are amazing and the girls really enjoy living there and have a place to hang out. Our dorms are not the same--don't care what you say.

I couldn't agree more. Seeing some pictures from other schools recruitments. We should have houses!

Heard the same story that it was lack of money in the alumnae base. It would have been great to have had them when I was there.

I wish we had them, too. I heard the story about the money being an issue.

It has nothing to do with financial worth. It was put out to the sororities several years back and it was voted down. (You can research that if you really care enough to look.) There is nothing that prevents a group from requesting a vote of all the groups to the school to petition for houses. Now, if that passed, where would you put them? Land around the school is now so expensive it would be difficult to locate an area that would be convenient for all the sororities to be close to the campus and therefore security becomes an issue and also for the school to have control over a site (and that is at all colleges.) Financially, the alumni of AU are quite well off as can be researched once more if you care to check so money is not the issue, but land on campus is. Also, I think we all know that anyone interested in coming to Auburn would know about this situation, so the posts are either GR, other schools or uninformed students.

All schools have the same "problems"--nothing unique to Auburn. Give me a real reason. I would guess land is cheaper in Auburn than most SEC cities. Auburn just doesn't have the right kind of community to support houses, I guess. Wish we had them.

I do wish we had them. After visiting my friends at other schools, we are missing out.

and "Let It Go" because it is not going to happen. Do your research and know this has been discussed and voted down by the sororities.

Move along. . .

If one's marriage is in trouble one does not immediately have a baby to make the marriage "right" again.

If one's greek life is in trouble one does not hastily decide new housing is necessary just because "every other campus with greek life has them and houses will make us all right again".

Sincerely, how is our greek life "in trouble".
