This is just GR dribble to get people to write. AU students can well afford sorority houses believe me. Look at the real financial charts and those at Auburn are some of the most well off in the country. Houses are wonderful, but most sorority girls I know from other colleges all prefer apartments after a year of living in a house. Plus, by the time many girls are a junior, the younger girls have taken over. Sorority life is great, but do you really want to be with a bunch of girls 24 hours a day stuck in a house setting? I like the way it is!

AU was just ranked the #1 college in Alabama so there must be a lot of things that people like. One of the top reasons was how good the Greek life was. No, there are no sorority houses but all the new apartments in the area are great. The townhouses for the sororities work out fine and are beautiful. Then, instead of paying for a house, you can put your money in an apartment the next year after you live on the floor for a year. Much better than being with a whole group of girls all the time believe me.

#1 College in Alabama. That answers your question.

Agree that houses would improve both sorority and Greek Life at Auburn. How do we get this started??

You cannot get a house unless everyone gets a house and all the houses have to be on the campus for security reasons (in other words, you can't have a sorority unless it's sanctioned by the school and there's NO property available on campus that any group could afford. PLUS...YOUR SORORITY MUST PUT THE QUESTION UP AND GET EVERYONE TO VOTE! Personally, I like my apartment better than having to live with a bunch of girls screaming all the time.

that this post is from a year and a half ago, right? It started in Feb 2016! Most everyone I know (now in 2017) are fine with the way the sorority rooms are now. I love my apartment and I don't have to worry about my sorority asking me to donate big money to buy property and build a house.(You do realize that the school does not give you any of that don't you? Whatever is bought or built comes from loans from the national sorority fund and that has to be paid back through larger dues and alumni donations.)I prefer going to school, having fun with my group and then when I graduate my chapter still doesn't owe a big bill to national.

The truth is that there is a lack of financial resources in the Auburn community. Surveys were done years ago. The money isn't there.

This is not AU students on here writing these posts. Sure, houses would be nice, but all the sororities are so strong and so big, the majority of girls would much rather live in apartments. Why have the huge cost of a sorority house when the majority would not even be able to live there? As for no money, how ridiculous it that? Sounds like another school might be on here cyber trolling. AU alumni are rated as one of the top earners and that is backed up by facts. AU is also one of the highest rated colleges as is the town. (Also fact.) I love my sorority but I can't imagine having to live with 50 girls all the time in a house.(That still leaves about 200 not in the house.)

Typically, only one class lives in the house.....it would be great if we had them. Just travel to other schools that have them. No comparison to dorm life.

If it was going to happen, it would have been 20 years ago. In today's time thee are too many security issues and the cost of buying property and building is very expensive. Houses already built and around the campus are 4-5 hundred thousand dollars for little houses, much less one large enough for at least 50 girls. I like the apartments better anyway, they're new, clean and you don't have to see a roommate all the time!

Really does put our Greek system below other state schools. Especially all of the ones that surround us.

Painful truth. Let's get this changed!

The greek system at Auburn is about more than living together in a physical home. It's about what their greek members do, how they interact with other students and educators, how they uplift and support one another and the community as a whole, and what they do to raise interest in and funding for their philanthropies. Surely the benefits and attributes of being a member in Auburn's greek life can continue be had without the expense of separate, individual houses for each sorority.

Same for all sororities at all schools. Nothing special about here except the fact we don't have houses.

LIke JC said above--there isn't enough money here for houses. It's a shame.

Alabama doesn't lose lots of members over houses... They have the largest greek life in the country

loses girls like crazy. Look at the pledge class size of some of the chapters that are trying to get back to house total. One house took 177 girls and they are still not up to house total. They are going to COB both in the fall and the spring to try and keep enough girls in the chapter.

The interest by women wanting to be members of sororities at Alabama is very high. Almost twice as many women go thru their formal recruitment as the number at Auburn, and Alabama has one less sorority.

Because NPC requires all campus panhellenics (save Indiana) to use RFM during formal rush that pretty much guarantees any woman "maximizing her options" will receive a bid, thus the huge Alabama new member classes.

That said, having houses to live in at Auburn must be a unanimous decision made by all the groups currently at Auburn. Campus admins and city leaders should also be on board for them to have housing, considering the extra security and city amenities houses require. Forming a committee to look into houses for all our groups is acceptable, but since we have good student housing available there does not appear to be a need nor priority for same.

As others here have stated, houses are very expensive to build and maintain. Many NPC sororities have built expensive brand new houses and repaired old housing at campuses nationwide during the past seven years of sorority growth. But this Fall there appears to be a lull in nationwide sorority chapter growth; there are not as many campuses Open For Expansion as in recent years. We may yet see Auburn sorority interest plateau or fall.

While regular sorority houses would be nice, the subject just does not seem a priority here and current housing options for sorority women are affordable and acceptable.

The reason AU doesn't have sorority houses is because awhile back, like in the 50's/60's an older lady donated a huge fund with the only stipulation that no sorority houses be allowed on campus. So until that money runs out, there will more than likely be no sorority houses

Ouch!

The sororities at Tennessee had a large dorm with a floor for each sorority for many years. They took ample time to build monies toward individual housing. Their campus had to make available land plots for same. All that took much time. Then it took about five years to divide the land and build all the homes. IF we did individual houses, it would take time and coordination between the town, the campus and the sororities. Who want to be the first to volunteer to do the legwork necessary for this type of massive undertaking?

SO when you went on your tour of the campus you didn't remember it or you're not really anyone going to Auburn. Please make comments at least believable.

To be honest, I don't remember if Greek housing was covered in my campus tour or not. Our tour was BAD. If I had based my decision on the tour, I certainly would not be attending Auburn!
