rec letters
by: PnmHow important are rec letters for rush? I don't know many people who were in sororities and I am from the mid-west. I'm concerned this will impacted my chances of getting a bid. Will it?

They're very important to have, but it is still technically possible to get a bid without them in most sororities (if a sorority really loves you they can get a random girl in the chapter – or an alum depending on their national rules – to write you a rec if they're required to have one to offer you a bid). I had recs for about 2/3 of the sororities when I rushed and most of the ones that I didn't have recs for cut me early on. I did pref at a house that I didn't have a rec for and I really liked them but I ended up in one that I did have a rec for. Try to get at least one for each house, but if you don't end up with recs for all of them, you'll still probably get a bid somewhere if you are pretty and have a good personality.
