rec letters
by: PnmHow important are rec letters for rush? I don't know many people who were in sororities and I am from the mid-west. I'm concerned this will impacted my chances of getting a bid. Will it?

Rec letters are important if you are not already "in" with a sorority you would like to join. For example, from personal experience I can only say that recommendation letters were not a factor because of my connections to a top sorority and that my mother, grandmother and great aunt were all members. This is not the situation for most and unless you are already known very well to the sorority of your liking, you should provide the recommendation letters so that you are not dropped on a technicality.

Definitely try to get rec letters for as many sororities as you can and get more than one rec if you are able to. It makes it a lot easier on the sorority because some can not give you a bid without a rec. That being said, if a sorority really wants you and you don't have a rec, it is their responsibility to find somebody to write you one. So if you don't have recs for a few sororities don't freak out!

Yes you need them. Period. But if you can't find one it ultimately falls to the sorority to obtain one for you if they wish to pledge you.
And having more recs for a sorority doesn't increases your chances of a bid from them. It's more about the impression/connection you make with a group.
