question
by: CuriousIsn't there supposed to be a new sorority coming to campus? If so, are they going to make sure a significant amount of girls do not receive bids at all so they will have people to start this sorority? How does that work?
#2 by: The way it works
Is whatever year the new group is coming on board, they will advertise the semester before hand and they will send representatives called leadership consultants who are recently graduated members that are hired by their nationals to travel to their existing chapters and to the campuses where they are going to charter. They do a lot of tabling on the prospective campus and talk to interested PNMs. During formal recruitment the chartering sorority will be put into the first round rotation and their national officers and their LCs will give presentations to the PNMs. PNMs who are interested in being charter members can drop out of formal recruitment at any time to pursue membership with the new sorority. PMNs can go all the way thru formal recruitment to prefs, but if they sign a bid card and get a bid, then they will not be eligible to rush the new sorority. Usually a couple of weeks after formal recruitment the new sorority will hold events and interviews with interested girls and then hold a pref event. The new members will get bids and have a bid day just like established sororities.
Panhellenic does not force anyone to join the new group, nor do they keep girls going thru formal recruitment from receiving bids from existing sororities.

Currently, in the extension process, there are two sororities left vying for the open spot on campus. This fall, representatives from current sororities will vote on whom they wish to join the greek community at Auburn, after each sorority gives a presentation. The chosen sorority will then begin the colonization process next spring, and will go through the process that "the way it works" stated above. Technically, during formal recruitment of 2016, the new sorority will participate, but it will be different than in other chapters since they will not have the numbers as everyone else. But, if you are rushing this fall, this isn't anything you have to worry about!
Also a side note, Auburn's panhellenic community is extremely inclusive and does not believe greek life needs to be exclusive. Each and every woman deserves the chance to find the sisterhood for her, and has the right to to it; who are we to only accept a small fraction the girls going through recruitment?? (in fact, most girls released from recruitment are released because they are considered grade liabilities!) Auburn recruitment will be long and stressful, but we do sincerely hope that you enjoy it, keep your mind open, and find the sisterhood best for you!
