by: GR Administrator#551by: Question about recs
I do have several recommendations from various people to most all the sororities. If however, and there are some groups that I cannot find anyone that belongs to them, then I assume that if they are really interested in me they will locate a rec on me themselves, right? My friend said that most of the groups have alums walking around meeting girls so that they can write a rec if they need one, is that enough? I also have several distant cousins that are in sororities at other schools, should I list them so that I can be a distant type legacy, or is that just strictly for those with moms and sisters?
#552by: also wondering
I also have recs for just about all the groups, question, do I need to get more for the group that my mom is an alum in since I am a legacy...in other words, will that rec be all that I need or should I try and get a bunch of her sisters to write them also. No one went to Auburn for college so they would all be from small colleges out of state. One last question, if i want to open my options, should I not really say my mom was in a group to other groups at the parties? I do not want to get cut out just because my mom was in one and then they cut me and I would be left with nothing! Help!!

You do not have to worry at all about getting any more recs. If you have already got one for all of them, I would let it go fot now and just come and have fun! If a group really wants you, they will get a rec believe me. No one needs to worry about finding all those recs, they are nice and it makes it easy for the sorority, but it is their responsibility to find one of they need it, however, if you are a legacy, I would definitely make sure I had one turned in ahead of time. I know plenty of girls that pledge groups and they never knew who wrote a rec on them, so if needed, they will be found!

Don't bring up being a legacy to any other sororities. If they straight out ask you, then definitely don't lie, but don't just be like well my mom is such and such. If you are in that sorority's chapter room then you can bring it up but definitely don't "brag" about it or act like they have to give you a bid... because they don't. And don't obsess over recs, work on perfecting your resume and picking the perfect picture to send in to panhellenic.

I've been through recruitment on all sides. As a PNM, as a sister and as a Pi Chi. I would really not stress about recs. They're NOT that important. Are they helpful? Somewhat. Bottom line-if you project yourself well, are yourself, polite and enthusiastic, and have good grades-it will all work out. If a sorority wants you-they'll make it happen. As far as fb? I imagine here and there people are looking but I don't think any sorority has time to check out the page of every pnm. If you have stuff on your fb page that you'd be embarressed for a sorority member to see-probably shouldn't be on the internet anyways. NO profile is truly private.

If there are only 17 sororities, then why are there 19 ranked here?
I got rec letters for about 7 sororities, I have a 4.0 and am a presidential scholar. Even though I am missing some letters will that adversely affect my chances of getting into a good sorority?

Make sure you get rec letters for KD, Phi Mu, Chi-O, Pi Phi, ADPI, Aopi, DDD,AGD, AX, Dg. If you are having problems find recs, call your area chamber for an alumi association. I know Mobile, Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery, Baldwin County, Covington County, Escambia County all have greek groups that can help you.

Let's go girls. Get your dresses, shoes, etc for rush. Make sure you have as many recs as possible. Remember, you are selling yourself to lots of high achieving girls. Go for it. Pledge the group you like, not what someone is telling you to like. Research them on-line. Check out the dues. If you can afford it, it will be no problem. If you are worried, then be smart. Most sororities will cost about 250.00 a month.
