To questions about legacies/recs:
May sorities do not give all that much preference to legacies. I know mine just requires they be invited back once after the first day. Most sororities only consider you a legacy if your mother, grandmother or sister was a member.
As for recs-it is the responsibility of the sorority to get one if they need it. They're nice to have but ultimately it's okay if you don't.
Relax, have fun and join the group that's right for you!

After you go to sororities, do you rank them in order from 1 to 17 on the first day, or do you just circle the ones you want?

I am a Aunt, I have not children. Wouldn't my niece be considered a legacy? If not she should be. All she has heard about her life is KD

To Padgett-Technically she's not. It's grandmother, mother or sister. As I mentionned below with most sororities it doesn't make that much of a difference anyways.
Some people still list it and she certainly can. I didn't list any legacies as I wanted to keep my options open. Sometimes it can work against you. I would certainly write her a rec though, if I were you.

different sororities have different ideas on who qualifies as a legacy. please check with your own sorority for their specific policy. i am sure that even if your sorority does not consider a niece a legacy, i am sure they would be glad to know that her aunt is a member.

as to it being the responsibility of the sorority to find a rec. for a girl, that is the politically correct answer, but when you have 1200 or so women going thru recruitment, and half of them don't have recs. do you seriously think that the sorority will have the time, much less the desire to hunt down recs. for them? please! when chapters have to release tons for pnms after the first set of parties, not having a rec. is an easy reason to be dropped. less work for the sorority.
