Barriers still stand in sorority rush process

Sherles Durham, a freshman, went through Fall 2011 rush, only to be dropped from recruitment in the third round of events. She suspects her race came into play in the decision to drop her. / CW | Drew Hoover
The first headlines in newspapers across the country on Sept. 11, 2001 didn?t come from New York City. Before four airliners changed course and changed history, one of the top national stories that day was about a girl, a dream and the sororities at the University of Alabama.
Sept. 9, 2001 had been bid day. Melody Twilley (now Melody Zeidan), a black sophomore, had just been summarily rejected by all traditionally white sororities at Alaba

all at the same time. I notice that the Delta Gammas took the time yesterday (june 1st) to make a positive, encouraging, supportive comment about literally every Panhellenic sorority at Auburn. And right after they did, they were immediately jumped on by like 3 people giving them the lowest possible scores and even calling them fakes for saying nice stuff about others. At least over on the fraternity side, we don't pretend we're doing anything but tearing each other up. It would be hilarious if it weren't so pathetic. Nice Try, DG. I guess now you know what happens when you try to be nice to other people.

Delta Gamma wishes to extend Pan love to all of our Greek sisters here at Auburn. We have a Greek community that is recognized by so many as being particularly strong. Each sorority on our campus contributes to that collective strength. We should remember that, for every bitter, misguided person who makes a negative comment about any of our houses, each of us has the power to make a positive and supportive comment- and we should keep being positive with and about each other until the small and petty commenters are simply overwhelmed. Pan love to all and WAR EAGLE from DG!!!

It's okay. We (DG sisters) learned a long time ago to just let the negative things roll right off and not upset us. Also, if you look now, you will see that, despite the negatives after our posts of a couple of days ago, several of our sister sororities have responded with positive support. Because, at the root of it, THAT IS WHAT BEING GREEK AT AUBURN IS ABOUT!! So thanks so much to all who have come to our defense! And by the way; we know that Kappa Alpha Theta is still not listed on this site. But we want the Thetas to know that we love you guys too!! Pan love and War Eagle!!

To be honest, this site in itself is quite pathetic and it basically just offers a opportunity for sorority girls from every house to log in and vote for themselves and against each other which leads to no real and true rank anyways. each house has an amazing bundle of girls with great qualities no matter which letters you wear. Regardless of the stereotypes that each sorority holds, there are wonderful ladies that belong to each that you just don't know. We are all Greek together and we all share the same principles that our sororities uphold. Sisterhood means a great deal to all of us within our sororities and shouldnt be any different when extended to other houses. We all believe and love the same things.
