sorority comments

I came to AU from out of state and was curious before rush too. I wanted to know the stereotypes associated with each group, who had the best GPAs, who was good at intramurals....everything. Looking back, I wish I had just relaxed, trusted my intuition, and really tried to feel out where I felt the most at home! Thankfully, the group I ended up in is exactly the right one for me, but my rush was crazy and stressful because of all my preconceived notions of the chapters. Just relax, you WILL find your sisters!

How much does Chi O consider looks? Also, do you have to have connections to get in? Which sororities have reputations of being too wild?

Most sororities don't really consider looks that much. What most look at is if you're the best version of yourself...basically take care of your self, dress well, and present yourself well and don't look/act sloppy. Every sorority has a mix of gorgeous girls and not so gorgeous girls. Same with wild girls...there are a couple in every sorority...some just do a better job at hiding theirs than others. You really need to just go in with an open mind without preconceived opinions. If you listen too much about what other girls have to say you may end up in a house that you don't really fit into instead of one that could be perfect for you.

How important are recs? I'm scared I won't be able to get one for all the sororities!

From a guys perspective
PHI MU is the classic pretty girl sorority:
Alpha Gams are the really smart girls but are also very attractive and have great girls
ADPi is great all around
AOPi was the best on campus a few years ago, i hope they can pull it back
ChiO are your out doorsy type girls but are still really fun
KD gets a bad rep on here but i'm honestly shocked, they're awesome

It's not that the others are bad i just don't know them as well and they don't stand out as much on campus, but go into rush with an open mind

Although I doubt any guy would take time to write anything like the poster below, all our groups are great and I have great friends in all of them! A girl would be fortunate to get a bid to any of them.
All have great girls and all are involved. I have a lot of wonderful friends in each group I can call on.
That has been important to my having such an awsome year.

opinion and perception. It's important for PNMs to remember that! Just as an example, I asked a couple of guy friends (one rising senior, one rising junior)their personal opinions of several groups. They agreed on some, not on others. Both agreed that Phi Mu has a lot of attractive girls, but one found them a little stand-offish. Both like ChiO. Neither was impressed with Pi Phi, though they are ranked high on this site. Both thought AOPi should be near the top. They split on ADPi, one thought they were very good, the other said he did not care for the ADPi girls that he had met. Both guys rated Delta Gamma as "very good to awesome" and said they would probably put them in their top five. They also thought that Sigma Kappa should be higher than they are. One said he really liked DZ a lot, the other said he thought they were ranked about right where they are. Both believed that Gamma Phi was not really top ten. So... you see, you get different opinions. Be open-minded!

Phi Mu,Alpha Gam, ADPI, AOPI, CHI O & KD are indeed great, but then all sororities at Auburn are very good!

I so agree with you! Don't listen to the gossip. All groups have something to offer! Find the one for you. You are going to hear this over and over again...because it is true!Relax and have fun and things will fall into place!

They all have a lot to offer, so keep your eyes open and ask questions. Give all the groups a chance in case you don't get the one that "you knew you wanted." Some girls may not find what they want, but many will. There are great girls in all of them!
