It's time to begin asking teachers, ladies at church, etc... If they were in sororities. Let them know you are going through recruitment. So....start now.

Don't try to get a bid from a sorority just because they're top tier. If you don't fit in with them, you are going to be miserable. And if you get initiated then you won't be able to rush again once you realize that you didn't rush for the right reasons.

At least one per chapter... No more than three per chapter unless each rec writer has something new and interesting to add.
