wealth
by: HowIs wealth really a deciding factor in whether a pnm gets a bid from KD? That seems strange to me. How could members of KD know a girl's family is wealthy just by rush and a resume????

No, no sorority can ask you what kind of money your family makes or has. IF they do, turn them into Panhellenic and their national office. Rules are very specific about that and if a local is doing it, then they need to be reported. They should never even ask what either of your parents do for a living or what kind of car you have. Years back, they probably all could and may have, in today's time, no.

first, they all know if you have money or not. plus, they should be able to ask you. the girls that come from money are the traditional sorority girls and thats the way it was from the beginning. who wants girls who can't pay for their dues or wear the most up to day styles? i mean…..hello……..

Sure the financial part is already known by some, but it is never allowed to ask a girl anything about money or if she can afford it or what her parents do, besides if a rec was filled out on the girl, most can tell what her parents do or where she lives. However, there are plenty of girls who get into sororities who are not wealthy and they do fine. There are also plenty of girls in KD who do NOT have a lot of money but get in, of course you do have to be a legacy in that case.

They re not supposed to ask, most already know if they are interested, however, there are girls in KD, as well as all the others, who are not wealthy. There are a lot of girls not in KD who are very well-off financially. It does not cost that much to be in a sorority at Auburn, so you do not have to wealthy to be in one, nor do you have to come from money to pledge one.

They do already know most things about someone since most of them have ties through their mom. A well-liked alum can get her daughter in no matter her financial status. I know a lot who do not have money so wealth may not be a cause to take or not take a girl...it all boils down to who they know. They can do that since there are so many legacies that go through. All sororities should be that lucky!

Girls aren't dumb, they know which zip codes have money and which zip codes don't, and what a quality dresss and such looks like. It's really not hard to pick up on financial situations, especially if you mention parents, or a scholarship, or ask about dues, or what have you.

The whole chapter is not allowed to see what a rushee has written on her forms, nor are they supposed to see anything written on a rec, that is ONLY supposed to be seen and read by the advisor and rush chairman. No pertinent info is supposed to be exchanged to the audience (rest of the chapter) that has anything to do with finances. I do not think KD ignores this rule at all. Most girls are already known through being a legacy to a mom who went to AU. Agree with one of the posts above, you do NOT have to wealthy to be in KD. There are many who are just regular middle class. There are many girls who have as much, or more, in other sororities.

The zip code is pure bs. I know girls from lesser zip codes who's parents make triple what some from Birmingham and Montgomery make. This whole conversation is shallow and makes Panhellenic look fake. Just stop!
