out of state?

by:

I'm from Florida and just toured auburn and really want to attend next year. How open are sororities to out of state girls? And do your recs have to be from members of the sorority chapters at auburn or can they be from a member of the same sorority from a different school? Thanks! :)

All but a few are very open to OOS members. Recs can be from any member of the sorority. They do not have to be from the Auburn chapter.

If you are from out of state you won't know anyone and will be a huge disadvantage. Its likely you will be cut from most houses so don't plan on getting a bid from any sororities here. There are plenty of non-greek organizations to get involved in. Good luck.

Cut her a break, she's from Florida. Hasn't she suffered enough?

That negative post and the one below was probably not written by anyone from Auburn. There's not any sororities that won't pledge an OOS girl if she is who they want. How silly would that be? Now, no sorority can pledge all OOS since that would be difficult to keep alumni from helping out at rush and keeping legacies. But you'll be fine if they want you!

I know several oos girls who had great recruitments. Get recs, smile and have fun.

There's a huge amout of girls that come from Florida, it's one of the largest outside feeder states after Georgia. It's fine. I'm from a small town OOS and I ended up in what's considered a "top" sorority by this site. Get recs, smile, you'll be fine

lol who are you??

you'll be fine! I'm from georgia and didn't know anyone and had like 5 rec letters and i was only dropped by 2 sororities. if they want you they'll find someone to write you a rec letter during rush but a lot of them don't require rec letters!!

stop telling her that. You can see from the bid sheets that Florida has a large amount of girls that pledge ALL the groups. Come and relax.

There are many OOS girls who pledge at Auburn! If your recs come from your home town, you will have a better chance of pledging. My sorority requires recs to be from home town alums, although there are exceptions. Sororities that pledge local girls and Alabama girls probably will not look at you seriously, but most groups will consider all qualified PNMS. Good luck.

Believe me, if a sorority wants you...THEY will find an alum to write a rec for you!

Out of state girls are welcome here! There are one or two catty sororities that will only take in state girls but the majority don't care :)

I was out of state and had no recs! i knew absolutely no one going into rush and i ended up with full schedules after almost every round. just be yourself and you will end up exactly where you are supposed to be. Some sororities are more open to out of state girls than others thats for sure, but my sorority is not bottom tier in the least and we have so many out of state (and out of region) girls!

It's fine! Recs matter only to the extent that it's very important to have them, but they don't need to be from Auburn alumnae.

Make sure you have recs... While they aren't really going to help, not having one will hurt. Yes, sororities will look for a rec for you if they absolutely adore you, but that's a huge risk to take and it's better to be prepared.
