Is it true AGD ran out of jerseys??

by:

Hearing alpha gam ran out of jerseys and bid day bags bc they thought they would have a smaller PC. Anyone know if this is true?? For those than don’t know the smaller the PC= the better your retain rate

Chi O and AGD offered so many bids this year. It was a lot more girls doing rush, but maybe they are branching out and not being as exclusive.

Simply put, they have more spots to fill because of attrition. That doesn’t make them exclusive. Sometimes, quite the opposite.

Yep! Not due to more girls rushing but instead more active members dropping 🫣

The smaller the PC=/= the better the return rate. How do you people come up with this nonsense?

A smaller the pledge class would be an indication of a chapter’s miscalculation during their ranking of PNMs on their bid list.

What probably happened was that the chapters were given a ball park estimate of what quota would be, and AGD ordered the lower of the numbers for their bid day goodies. I imagine when Panhellenic updated the quota estimate they ordered more gifts that will arrive soon. It happens sometimes if you don’t take the higher number and order extras.

Actually you’re wrong. OP didn’t say return rate they said retain rate. Retain as in total chapter size. This would likely mean more girls have dropped alpha gam than the sororities who got smaller PCs. The goal is to make chapter size fairly equal not pledge class size.

Honestly though it’s extremely embarrassing to not be prepared on bid day

I heard this too and I don’t know what it is but girls just aren’t desiring them like they used to. A lot of the solid “middle tier” groups got the girls that would typically go there

I don’t know if I buy that. With a record breaking number of PNMs I would expect sororities to over order to be prepared. Nobody wants to not meet quota since that’s perceived as “bad” so I would think they’d order plenty to plan high.

There is a quota number for the pledge class set based on the number of PNMs who sign pref cards. For example purposes, if there were 2200 PNMs this year, then assume 90%(~1980) signed a pref card based on history. The quota would be roughly 110 (1980/18 sororities). Each sorority would then list their top 110(the quota) from pref and then rank the remainder. The computer then goes down the lists and matches the PNMs and the sororities, starting with the ones on the top 110 list who also listed that sorority first. Once a sorority hits quota, they stop getting matched. If you are 120 on a sorority's list and listed that sorority first, but you were on your second choices top 110 list, you would most likely get a bid to your second choice. The process continues until the quota is filled for all of the sororities, or all options are exhausted for the ones that don't hit quota. At that point, if all sororities hit their quota, then everyone has the same number of pledges. However, there will always be some PNMs for whom both of there choices are already at quota. This is where RFM kicks in to make sure everyone who turned in both pref cards gets a bid somewhere. If they didn't, then all of those girls left would just get dropped. They typically try to give those left their first choice (but not always), and it pushes the assigned sororities over the quota. In no world is being unable to meet quota better than being pushed over through RFM.

But quota is specific to each chapter, not standard. It is based on attrition. This is why Tri sig constantly needs a larger class than everyone else.

That is not correct. The quota number is the same for all sororities after pref when they make their lists. That doesn't mean they will all end up the same number of pledges in the end after the quotas are filled and the remaining PNMs are assigned, but the majority will be fairly close. Go look up the numbers. There were 1735 PNMs that accepted bids on bid day in 2023. That would be 96 per sorority. There were 1785 new members added overall in the fall semester of 2023, that would be 99 per sorority. Obviously, some of those were COB or whatever, but regardless that comes out to 96-99 new members per sorority on average in fall 2023. If you dig in, 14 of the 18 sororities added 99 or more. There were only two below 92. You mention one of them at 54 new members, so I have no idea where you are getting your information. I also have no idea where people come up with the lower the number for a pledge class the better. Out of thin air I guess. As far as attrition, retention, or whatever you want to call it goes, all sororities grew from fall 2022 to 2023 (average of 20 or 30), because the pledge classes were larger than the graduating classes in 2022 for the most part due to higher PNM numbers. The average member "loss" for all sororities was around 10 from fall 2023 to spring, due primarily to December graduations, which shows none of them were facing much in the way of attrition. AGD, who was specifically mentioned above, was fourth highest in numbers in the fall and fourth highest in the spring. I'm not sure where you all are getting this attrition and retention stuff. Members graduated in the spring, which is desired, so where AGD or any other sorority started in 2024 depends on how many graduated, graduated early, etc... I'm not sure how anyone could make graduating, mush less graduating people early, a negative. You people are just trying to make something up.

This is not true. The quotas for pref and return rates throughout the week are based on historical sorority data regarding retention and conversion to initiation. This is why a sorority with a lower conversion rate offers more bids (e.g. sorority X has 10% of members drop before initiation, so they are allowed a higher bid quota). Sororities with very high rush return rates also have lower cut numbers each round (e.g. sorority Y with 98% return rate asks back fewer girls to Sisterhood than does sorority X with a 60% return rate).

You’re acting like it’s ALL from graduating and NO ONE dropped from any of the classes, not just seniors. We all know it isn’t. (And I’m not talking about agd) And COb isn’t necessarily bad, but many sororities consider it taboo and do not do it.

Are y’all even in sororities! I think you are confusing RFM and quota.

Quota is basically the number of PNMs who sign their MRABAs divided by the number of chapters. 100 PNMs sign MRABAs, there are 5 chapters, quota is 20. Quota is the same for all chapters. Quota additions will vary, which is why everyone doesn’t have the same number of new members.

RFM determines how many PNMs your chapter can ask back and it IS based on historical data. A sorority that has a higher return rate over X amount of years, 2 or 3, ( everyone wants to go back there) will have to release more girls.

RFM impacts how many can be asked back each round.
