rushing a sorority as an out of state transfer

by:

I will be transferring to Auburn in the Fall as a junior from California. I have a 3.4 GPA, am very outgoing and friendly and want to join a sorority once I begin at Auburn. I was wondering what my chances are of getting a bid without being from Alabama, a legacy, and as a transfer student.

To Auburn! While it is harder to get a bid, it is not impossible. Get your recs together and come with an open mind.

3.4 is a pretty good GPA for Auburn. You should be fine.

The main thing is to relax and enjoy meeting everyone. You will find your fit.

You will be fine. Just make sure to put your best self out there for the sororities to get to know you.

Having a 3.4 is a great GPA and while some sororities are less inclined to take out of staters, for the most part people don't really care where you are from. But honestly, the only part that will be tough is that you're a junior. Being a transfer does make it harder but not impossible just be super friendly and memorable!!

While the positivity from the previous posters is charming, it's time to be realistic and not sugar-coat the truth.

You are at a massive disadvantage.
The fact that you'll be a junior alone is enough to be overlooked. Yes your GPA is fine but the other unfortunate fact is that you are not just from Alabama, but not from the south.

I won't say it's impossible, but you're making it a tough case. Make sure to let your personality shine through and highlight the positives while chatting with the women of each chapter. Stay level-headed and confident. If you let them see that you're nervous about the fact you're a junior, they'll remember that and use it against you. Have fun with it, but don't get attached to one chapter.

It's hard enough to get a bid in the south, so don't be shocked if you don't get a top tier chapter. Good luck!

What the above poster means by "use it against you" in terms of being a junior is that you want the rushers to remember your cute personality,etc...
