What happens to transfer students?
by: IdkSo what happens to people who transfer to Auburn that are in a sorority at their current school? I’m divided on whether I should continue to go through rush at my current school since all of the sororities here are also at Auburn, or wait until I’m a sophomore to go through rush. I’m just worried because I heard it’s nearly impossible to get a bid if you aren’t a freshman, but I also heard it’s hard to transfer your membership. I just want to hear from a student’s perspective on what might be the best option.

it’s a hard choice to make! I do know some of the more established / top houses rarely accept sophmores rushing from the perspective that freshmen can offer the sorority “more” in terms of years of membership. As for transfers, those go on a sorority by sorority basis. Research the transfer rules for each sorority bc honestly idk. At the end of the day each sorority has great girls and can be a positive part of your college experience. I do think it’s wrong to rush at one school for the purpose of leaving a semester later to join a different chapter of that sorority. It’s misleading to the girls recruiting you.

I transferred from another school to a top tier sorority at Auburn. At first some of the girls were a little standoffish toward me but others were as nice as could be. When I helped their already great GPA and was a top 20 finalist for War Eagle girl then I was more widely accepted. I think they were skeptical about girls transferring in because some did so just to get in through the back door. There were two other girls transferring in as sophs (Alabama residents) when i did. I had a completely different situation and was from OOS. I didn’t even know my sorority’s reputation before I decided to transfer. I’d be careful about doing a transfer. it’s harder to form bonds transferring in. It took some work assimilating into already established friendships/pledge class. Some of the sisters will be skeptical of you (justifiably so I’m some cases).

I understand and appreciate your insight. I’m meeting with the Greek life coordinator at my school today to explain the situation and in no way am I trying to mislead anyone. I intend to transfer for fall 2024, so I’ll be here for a year. Auburn is my dream school, but my grades weren’t great in high school, so I’m at my current school now. I am not in any way trying to get into a house easier. It’s just that I couldn’t be at Auburn my first year.
