by: SammyI'm an incoming freshman and I'm a bit torn on which sorority I would like to be in next year. I just need some insiders opinions on which sororities have the girls that are humble and not stuck up, smart, good sisterhood, classy, but still like to party. Please no self ranking!

really can't be torn when you haven't even rushed and gotten to see for yourself what the groups are like. Don't come to rush having "decided" what YOU want. Come with an open mind and get to know each group..then be ready to be happy with the group that chooses you!
Also..ignore the post above. Someone seems to have had a bad spring break on here.

Well, you just described pretty much all of our groups, but based on the way you asked specifically, I'd say look more closely at DG, DDD, and maybe DZ or GammaPhi.
AG, ChiO, KD, PhiMU, ADPi, AOPi, and AXO (for different reasons) are probably not exactly what you are looking for.

You must be the bully that posts negative remarks on certain sororities. Tacky. All of the sororities at Auburn are great! Look for a sorority you fit in---don't try to make judgements before you even meet the girls. There is a little of everything in every sorority on campus.

actually her question was about groups that are humble and not stuck up, smart, good sisterhood, classy, but still like to party...she seemed to me to be someone who was looking for more all around groups so that's why I suggested the ones I did to her. I took out AG, ChiO, ADPi, AOPi and AXO because they are a little more strict with freshmen about partying (which I assume she wants to do freshman year or she wouldn't have put that in)...I took out KD and PhiMu basically because of their rep of not being humble or stuck up part of the question. Does that still sound like a bully? Maybe a little towards KD and PhiMu, but I honestly don't mean for it to.

All the sororities are really good and most have about the same kind of girls. I know many in each group and there's some of all kinds. To be honest, very few come across as stuck up in my time around them. As with "answer", she probably is choosing the ones she knows best and is in and that is fine. There are definitely girls who party in all the sororities, you can see that each night. I really have never met a KD who was stuck up, but that's just me. Nope, not in that sorority, but have a good friend who is. Of course, key to all this would be that you have to receive a bid from a group before one can "be torn" between them. Good luck and hope you find what you want. Best thing would be to wait till rush and see what you have before deciding anything and being disappointed in a pre-decision~

I agree with @All are good. That's exactly how I see them also. I have as much fun with my own sorority when we party as I do with some other friends in other groups. I really have not seen a major difference in any of them. It's not like someone is watching you all the time from those groups that @answer suggested for my point of view. Nor have I seen those that were listed as more partiers either as being out more than others, but then again, I don't just sit and look at who's out there all the time as she might. There's haughty girls and humble girls in ALL of them. Don't think that there is a whole group that defines this. Also, agree with previous poster...don't count your chickens before they hatch.. you might not get the group you have "chosen". so be prepared to look at all of them, or perhaps get nothing.

I'm sure this is just a question tossed out there by someone for a joke. It would be difficult for most anyone to come to rush with too many preconceived ideas of who exactly she would be going to and who it would come down to. (Not saying there isn't someone who might be being rushed ahead of time by several groups who want her, but for the normal girl coming through, it would be difficult to know who wanted her right now.) They are really all so good. I was fortunate and got who I wanted, but I also had a sister who had just graduated so I knew a lot of the girls, however, that being said, I was torn between the one I got and the other pref I went to. I put them both down as I feel I would have been happy at either, sad of course that I didn't get my first choice, but I would have survived as many girls do that get their second or third choice. Everyone I know that got their alternate choices absolutely love their group now. So, just go into rush with open eyes and if you wind up with your top choice, great, if you don't and get another...work with it AND if you are dropped by the group you cannot live without...hey...they didn't chose you...grow up and pledge a group that did.

Actually, that's not true. Maybe if you took some time to actually learn about the Panhellenic system you would know that they put the pnm's preference BEFORE the sororities preference. Good try though.

Later in the week the PNM will rank their choices....IF the sororities don't cut her before she makes it to the end. So, the sororities pretty much choose you until the end and THEN if you are lucky, you get to choose between three. AND, with that, it all depends if you are ranked high enough on your number one's list. It's a crap shoot at the end....so honestly the PNM may have "some" choice but not much.
The best thing a PNM can do is come to recruitment with no preconceived ideas of what sorority she wants. All are great!

You are a smart girl! I agree it's great if you get your top choice, but if you don't it's okay. It's important to let the process work. The girls in each sorority know who will fit with them for the long term. I know for me there were sororities that I felt so connected to, yet they dropped me. I was disappointed of course, but the girls on the inside see the big picture of whether you fit or not. I LOVE where I ended up and see now that it was the best place for me. I just want to encourage any future PNM reading this to NOT try and judge any sorority before you get here. It is a tough process, but it seriously works if you will go in with an open heart. Please don't try to choose before you even meet the first girl. Good luck and War Eagle!
