Advise for new members please read
by: SeniorBeing a senior I’ve seen this happen every year in lots of sororities. Girls who say they “tried” drop within a week and say they just didn’t click with anyone on bid night and call it a day. It’s totally fine if you really don’t feel like your sorority you ended up with is right for you and if you actually tried it’s totally understandable, but if you’re thinking about dropping now please just give it a little more time. At least get to know majority of your pledge class and some older members before you make your decision. This is something I really wish Panhellenic did a better job of in explaining and being real with new members that your first week will be pretty chaotic and strange. Especially bid night being with a bunch of girls you don’t know. Reach out to girls and invite them to do stuff! Every year I see freshman complaining they stopped getting invited to hang out yet they haven’t even reached out to others themselves. Friendship is a two way street and you at some point have to put yourself out there and make an effort. I’ve already seen this happening in a few sororities because my suitemates have been talking about it and it sucks seeing this happen every year. Just get to know most of your PC before dropping, or at least try to make it till right before initiation. might as well take advantage of the events you do first semester. But please take it from a senior, you don’t meet all of your close friends within the first week. You slowly get to know the girls more and more and you probably just haven’t gotten to meet that girl yet cause you haven’t really given it a try. Wishing all the new members good luck with the school year and enjoy the memories while you can!

Like everything in life, nothing comes easy and you get in what you put out. For girls that are unhappy where they landed, you are "stuck" until next fall anyways. Get out there and meet people. Make the effort. If you really hate it, drop right before initiation. If you can't find 5-10 people in a sorority to be your people, you may be the problem.

How is Alabama better? I wish girls could visit each house prior to philanthropy round and first ranking/cuts!
