What sororities may COB

by:

I don't love my choices. What sororities have done COB in past. I heard chi o and DG did last year but do others do it too? How many usually participate and how many bids are given out?

its honestly different every year. it depends on how many girls accept their bid or drop out. not every sorority does cob but i would 100% stick with what you have because you may not like what you have but it might be best where you belong.

Definitely keep going to your parties but don't feel pressure to join just to "be in a sorority." Cob is absolutely an option for many of the groups.

It’s important to ask yourself why you think you would see more agreeable choices via COB as opposed to formal recruitment.

If you believe the pressure and hectic pace of recruitment have caused you to underperform, COB may be an option.

If you are confident that you have connections in your preferred houses who couldn’t push you through during formal but may be better able to advance your cause IF those houses are in a position to COB, then it’s something to think about.

Being completely honest here: If there’s any sense that you are “better than” or “too good for” the houses who have welcomed you… it’s very likely that COB won’t be any more productive.

I would encourage you to do your absolute best to see what is special, unique, or promising about the houses that are asking you back. They see something in you, and if you have confidence in yourself that should make them stand out.

Best of luck…

Zeta also did COB last year, but i know it depends on the year and chapter totals so don’t count on it as a probable option.

Can you get a cob if you drop out? Or only if cut by everyone?

COB has nothing to do with rush. Anybody can get a COB. COB's happen later on if a house needs more members to get up to total.

Nobody is cut after pref. If you are invited to pref you are on the bid list somewhere. If you get a bid and turn it down you can't accept another bid until next year's recruitment. If you suicide at pref and don't get a bid then you are eligible for COB.

Y'all, COB is not a second mini rush. It stands for Continuous Open Bidding, which means that any sorority can offer a bid at any time to anyone if they are not at Chapter Total, which is not the same as Quota during rush. Chapter Total is recalculated for all the sororities in the weeks after recruitment is over. Some sororities may have openings, some may not, and those that do may not really care too much about filling them. There is not a COB week, or an organized spring rush, or anything like that, and most of those bids outside of formal recruitment are just given to girls that a sorority already knows and likes, so don't expect an announcement that sororities are looking to COB unless they are looking for more than a handful of new members. Your best chance for a bid is formal recruitment.

You CANNOT COB if you sign the preference list. so, if you are extended a bid, and foolishly decided not to at least give that chapter a try, you cannot COB until NEXT August.

If you suicide and don't get a bid then you aren't obligated under the MRABA. But do not suicide. If you accept a bid but then drop later you cannot get a COB. You must wait a year.

There is some wrong information on this thread. If you single intention bid (suicide), you are not COB eligible. If you sign that card and have two houses left at pref and pick just one, you are not eligible for COB. You will not be able to go through recruitment again until next primary recruitment period.

Agree with poster above COB isn’t a mini rush and if you have a house left after cuts this am GO! Give it a chance!
