If I am from out of state, do I have a good chance at getting a bid to a good fraternity?

Define out of state. A lot of GA and TN boys don't have problems. Most guys from outside the southeast usually go sig ep or pi kapp. They're not good but you'll probably fit in better than being around a bunch of southern guys and pretending to be like them.

Good is entirely relative. Joining a fraternity because you think it will make you popular is a rookie mistake and one that will do nothing but make your college experience suck. There ARE people in every fraternity that the other brothers find annoying and avoid. Don't be that guy and rush around and go where you fit. Joining a "top tier" fraternity isn't going to make you a rock star overnight.
