phi mu

YOU and your daughter aren't excited about starting college life because she didn't get in PhiMu?? And YOU came on here to what? Rant, or get sympathy? Whoa. This makes me really sad for you both, but mostly HER. I went into rush with PhiMu as my top too, and guess what? That was the ONLY sorority I got dropped from! Seems I wasn't a fit for them, and, turns out, I wasn't!!! They are a great group, but come'on Mom! It seems your attitude could have changed her's easily with a simple "keep your mind open, the right group for YOU is in one of the other 16!" I really hope you come back and report where YOU, I mean your daughter ended up, and that she (and YOU) are happy with HER new sisterhood! You are exactly the definition of why EVERYONE SAYS TO KEEP AND OPEN MIND AND LOOK AT ALL OF THE SORORITIES and let her choose! It really does work out the way it should, and MOST are REALLY HAPPY IN THE END. Going in and only wanting one or two groups is the biggest mistake anyone can make at an SEC school. This isn't your rush Mom, it's her's, and it's her first chance to make a decision without you; let her grow up and let her fail a time or two. She's probably more upset that you're upset! She wants to please you. In the end, you and she will be happier. Good luck to your DAUGHTER today. I hope she didn't drop and YOU will be supportive tomorrow! She's in for four great years with a great group of girls and many friends from other groups, including PhiMu.

Ladies I appreciate the passion but you have assumed quite a lot especially about me. My daughter has picked herself up and has moved forward. She is going thru prefs and I think she will make a good choice. The point I was trying to make is that joining a sorority is a commitment of time but more, of the heart. She had several favorites and by skit day, she had been cut by those favorites. She then had to regroup, gain her strength and figure out where her heart was and if she could be true to herself with the choices she had left. It's easy for people to comment and throw arrows but joining a sorority just to join one is not good advice. When you then deride chapters on this site who lack "sisterhood" perhaps it's because it's full of members that were never committed to that sorority. I fully support any decision my daughter makes and I can assure you that she has had an open mind. But getting cut be the ones you really liked throw you into an emotional tailspin. For those that say trust in the process, I guess it worked out great for you. But there are also girls that drop out and do fine, others pledge and end up dropping out because they didn't feel it. There are options. Today is an emotional day and my advise to her is to go someplace quiet and listen to her heart.

Sounds like you and your daughter are in a better place; good for you both. I wish you the best. The fact that assumptions were made, comes from your own original post. You were certainly emotional and your post definitely struck plenty of cords on this site. The fact that you're a adult (mom) and chose to post HERE made their response to you worse. This is a silly site, and most sorority girls don't EVER visit here. It's just a few obsessive guys and girls or alums who have little to do besides stir the pot or make others look bad. But indeed they are passionate about their feelings. They are either elevating their own group, defending their group, or putting others down on this site. It's not an accurate picture of sorority life at Auburn, and it especially is no place for an adult to air a grievance with PhiMu. It's just negative. Nothing good can come from an anonymous site that allows anyone to say anything they choose; usually unkind, hurtful, exaggerated, or untrue.
