Don't hear of that often, but I know one case where it happened (not at Auburn or SEC) but the two sisters wanted to be in different sororities, so the younger one just got dropped right away. It was how they wanted it, so is that maybe the case here? If not, wow.

Hearing some interesting things occurring with PM's rush-mostly not flattering.

Heard it was a surprise to the sisters - lots of tears from the sitting sis, so no..... not happy times....

For those of you speculating, you have no idea what the reasons were for dropping a sister. I'm not a phi mu but I know lots of sororities have done this through the years. Maybe the sister wasn't a fit? Talking about it isn't making it better for anyone.

Not every in house legacy is a fit. At least Phi Mu released her early enough that she can pull her boots back on and get excited about the remaining chapters. Phi Mu is great but Auburn has a great Panhellenic group with plenty she will fit in. Some chapters do not release in house legacies until after Skit and that is just pure evil in my eyes. Let them get excited for more than one day about their options.

Agreed that I do not know everything about the legacy release - and also agree that earlier is better than later. Also agree that Auburn has a great Panhellenic system....

The broke my daughters heart today. They missed out on a great and beautiful girl. There may be many sororities but the girls have to love and be excited about their choice otherwise they won't be active and perhaps drop out. Don't know if their chances are much better as sophomores but this is no way to start a college life.

God Lord, Sad Mom! What a crappy attitude both you and your daughter have if she is dropping just because Phi Mu dropped her! There are gorgeous girls in every house, and unattractive girls in every house (including Phi Mu, BTW).
To answer your question: Her chances are much slimmer as an upper classman, and many houses will automatically drop someone they have dropped before.
She should be making the most of her opportunities. I hate to tell you this, but life in general can be rough. Just walking away because you feel that much better than the sororities who took interest in you is pretty sad. For you, as a parent, to condone it, is even worse.

I understand you being hurt and angry because of this, but I hope your daughter wasn't advised to drop out of recruitment because her favorite released her. If everyone did that, sororities would be a thing of the past. The only way to make it through these majorly competitive SEC recruitments is to keep an open mind. SO many girls lose their top choice, and it HURTS, but the ones who are successful in the end are the ones who keep going and find new favorites. You've got to look at every day of rush with fresh eyes. PNMs willing to do that, and open their hearts and minds to others, will likely find things they love about them. SEC recruitment is tough for most, and the road to that one bid is a process of highs and lows, but most will say it's worth it. And really, if someone looks at all the other Auburn sororities, filled with so many women, and doesn't think she could be sisters with ANY of them, well the problem isn't the sororities, ya know? I'm sure your daughter is a great and beautiful girl, and I'll bet Phi Mu thinks so, too. Sororities know they miss out on amazing girls, but it's impossible to keep everyone they wish they could. The system and dynamics don't let them. I'm really hoping your daughter didn't drop because, unfortunately, it's much harder as a sophomore. The best opportunity at Auburn is as an incoming freshman in fall recruitment. If she's still in there and going to pref, encourage her to look hard at the sororities looking hard at her.
