by:

at which school is it easier to get a bid from a good sorority while being oos/oor with little connections? i know bama has more oos but i feel like auburn’s rush is easier and less superficial

UHHHH are you serious... auburn is way easier!! bama does empty bidding where you don't get notified and you can go into the arena and open a blank bid! bama is horrible auburn is amazing point said.

Both have competitive recruitment processes, but Alabama is a little bit more high stakes in that you’re paying a lot more, and the campus culture is much more Greek focused than auburn. At Auburn, most people don’t care too much about being Greek/not being Greek and at Alabama, a bigger percentage of the campus is Greek and it’s more expected.

I think if you have the values that Auburn sororities look for— generally conservative, religious, nice, involved, smart— you will easily find a home in one of the sororities at Auburn even if you are OOS. Bama sororities have a little more distinct “personalities”/stereotypes, so each house looks for different things in their PNMs.

That being said, Greek life at Alabama is much more friendly to OOS girls, and even the most southern houses at bama (AGD and XO) are more than 50% OOS. If you are FAR OOS, auburn’s Recruitment can be tough.

All in all, both schools have an awesome Greek life and you really can’t go wrong! Both schools have awesome sisterhoods and lots of fun.

I’m from the north so obviously that’s very OOS... are there any ways I can improve my chances during rush so I don’t get cut by all these houses?

Do you have friends who are in sororities at auburn? Was your mom, grandmother, or sister a sorority member at auburn? These sort of connections are valuable, but of course not everyone has them.

There are tons of girls who go through recruitment at Auburn (and bama) who don’t know anyone prior. These girls end up in every single chapter, so don’t be too discouraged if you are from far out of state.

The best things you can do to help ensure you have a successful recruitment experience are getting rec letters for every sorority, keeping your GPA up, and keeping an open mind!

Hey! I wouldn’t say that being far OOS or OOS is a disadvantage. It’s more that being in state or having lots of connections to auburn sororities/being friends with older girls is an advantage to some girls. Girls from Alabama have older girls that can vouch for their reputation and personality which can be helpful during recruitment. It can also hurt girls who have a questionable rep or were mean in high school.

No sorority will just drop a girl based off of her zip code/hometown, so don’t worry! You have the advantage of going to college with a clean slate and won’t be judging sororities just based off of older girls from your high school. Don’t go in discouraged, because as long as your GPA is strong, and you present yourself well, you will definitely find a home in one of the houses! Just make sure to get your Recs in

This is a crazy question. Why is it even a question?

Being OOS is not so much a disadvantage as being in state is an advantage. There is a big difference. Don't worry about something you can do nothing about. Worry about your recs and all the other stuff that you can affect.

Well, I gonna say bama is easier since they lowered their ACT requirements to grow their student enrollment numbers. At Auburn 24 is still the minimum ACT to enroll, bama lowered theirs to 22...
