releases from recruitment

by: pnm

I read that a small number of girls get released from recruitment early. Aside from not maximizing their options each day, what are the main reasons why they get released early?

Breaking recruitment rules, grade risk, reputation risk, or just not clicking for a fit in a sorority. Girls who don't click who are still interested can get better at conversation/social skills and meet actives on campus and get a COB or go through again next year.

While some girls do get released due to grades or reputation, I can tell you honestly from my experience as an active that many girls just "fall through the cracks" of the system simply due to numbers, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, lack of connections. When selection meetings run late into the night, actives get tired, and while it is not right, many girls get cut because no one knows them and actives cut rather than discuss girls they don't know. The most important advice I can give you is if you are from out of state, work every connection you know to find an IN-STATE alum or active who will stand up for you. Being "invisible" in a system where connections mean everything is the kiss of death.

I’m just wondering how I should go about finding actives to stand up for me because I am from the North so I don’t know a single person at Auburn... Would it be weird to contact girls on instagram or something? Because I’m not sure how else I’d do it

The way you get actives to stand up for you is to make an impression during recruitment. You can't start making connections at this point. #1 any active who would meet up with you could be accused of dirty rushing and it would risk taking her and her whole house down. #2 even if it could happen she would not get to know you well enough to stand for you. Besides, one person in a chapter is not enough to help; it takes multiple actives to keep a pnm and that one active needs to have some pull and influence/respect in the chapter for people to trust her judgement and go along with her opinion. mAt this point, if you know someone who knows someone who knows someone then that's a start, but just contacting out of the blue would see to be outside the rules and not make a good impression.

Yeah don't contact people on instagram. It'll come off as creepy and it definitely won't make a good impression. I wouldn't worry about not knowing anyone. Plenty of girls come through in the same position as you. If you don't have rec letters either, don't worry, because if a sorority loves you, they'll write one for you during rush so they can keep you.
