Yes, I’m sure there are a few sororities that probably recruit on looks and appearances more than others. Some sororities love involved girls and PNMS with good grades. All 18 sororities at Auburn have pretty girls, smart girls, involved girls, etc. People may say that’s cliché but it’s true. Go through recruitment with an open mind and be yourself and you’ll be fine!

Honestly it really depends on who you talk to during rush. For my sorority, I'd say 95% of us genuinely care about your involvement, grades, personality etc, but there's a select few that only care about your looks. It's sad, but these girls will vote no if you don't look a certain way. But the numbers on that will change SIGNIFICANTLY based on which sorority you're talking about.

As an active I feel like looks definitely matter, but not in the way that you would think. When girls are rushing PNMs they are looking for girls that seem like they would fit in best with the chapter. That being said, we are looking for girls who are the most like us in most categories. When I'm rushing a PNM, it isn't like it's a conscious thought, however, the girls in my chapter do have a certain "look" and when I see PNMs who have that same "look", it makes me notice them more.

As a side note, I feel like PNMs should know that if you feel like you're having a great conversation and it goes well but then you get dropped, remember that these girls spend A LOT of time with their sisters and know the vibe of the house. There are so many times when I genuinely enjoy talking to a girl and think she's really cool, but I just see her as more of a friend than a sister. The same should go on PNMs sides - liking a house and thinking the girls are fun and sweet is one thing, but picture in your head if they're the girls who you would be comfortable with at your side when you look your worst, are sick, are in a rough situation, etc. That is the difference between friends and sisters.

The only ones I can think of that would SERIOUSLY judge you based on looks alone are gphi and phi mu.

as an active, i think you should know that appearance does matter, but so do many other factors. as long as you look put together and feel confident, then that’s all that matters! in my opinion, your personality is the most important factor out of everything! as long as you’re happy and confident, you’re going to be just fine!

Looks matter. Anyone who says otherwise is either blind or lying. Obviously each sorority has different standards for looks but that’s the first thing they notice and the last thing they remember about you when you leave. Have a nice day :)
