Is it considered bad if you don't accept a bid right away and hold?

Large fraternities have pulled away bids that had been held for too long. It might also bite you in the ass during pledgeship. I'd try and accept asap or hold and hope you don't get dropped.

It’s not a big deal it’s what you should do. Holding for several months is bad however

You don't have to accept on the spot. A week or so ought to be enough for you to figure things out.
